and because of the UI and because it's not the celebrity app of the chess world, I guess Lichess just feels like people are there to play instead of grind ELO. This is the part where I know it's totally in my head, but somehow it's real enough to make a difference for me 😅

Yeah I get that. I do a lot of my learning through books and videos. Chess.com def has the prettier interface and gamified learning paths, which can be huge if that's how you learn. Lichess has community based lessons, strategies, and puzzles, but it's all open source and free.

I can't explain it and I have zero proof to back it up, but I feel so much less stress since I switched to Lichess. chess.com just gives off e-sports vibes that isn't present with Lichess. YMMV but it's been super enjoyable
