Bedded pooly?
Guess the word based on the graphic: a bucket of sand with running shoes.
Can you figure out the puzzle and get this weekโs #CEDWordOfTheWeek? Comment your guess below and check Wednesdayโs post for the answer.
Green background with white text that says 'That's My Jam! A Lingthusiasm episode pairing for every day of the Bonne Maman Jam Advent Calendar'. A photo of a tiny jam of jar with a red gingham lid and cursive French script on a colourful background, set in a polaroid frame, with navy blue text that says 'Blueberry & Maple Syrup'. The photo is surrounded by line drawings of leafs and stars. Below that is white text that says 'with Speaking Canadian and Australian English in a British-American binary'

Fascinating.
The current Third Edition of A Dictionary of Canadianisms on Historical Principles, DCHP-3, is the latest reiteration of a Canadian linguistics project that turned, sometime in the early 1960s, into a Canadian Centennial Project.

Wรคre das etwas fรผr @ritschl.bsky.social? Mit Grรผรen aus dem nahegelegenen westlichen Kanada.
Life's short. Cliff notes: Charles J Lovell (American, orphan, autodidact) & Prof. Walter S Avis joined forces to document Cdn English. Prof. Harry Scargill (ling), Doug Leechman (anthro) & youngling Paddy Drysdale helped, as did Chuck Crate. The latter was a 1930s fascist leader (recent discovery)
Bitte mitmachen!

Thanks for sharing! Our soft launch will turn into a "harder" launch around Canada Day (1 July).
Thank you, @joshuajfriedman.com. The bulk of the praise must go to the "Big Six", the six people who, in the 1950s, thought that there might be something Canadian about the English of Canada.
Thank you, Jesse. We appreciate your kind words very much.

Austrian Word of the Week 65 is "Kompromiss" โ compromise. Carefully crafted after WW2, K. is the ability to know the other & respect their limits. The world needs more "Kompromiss" these days, so let it blossom in & spread from AUT. @bundespraesident.at rightly called it a"cultural treasure".
Felicitari pentru promovare.
Today restricted to "political domain". :-)
Austrian Word of the Week number 64 (#AutWrdoWk) is "Pouvoir". Of old imperial stock it represents the multilingual character of Standard Austrian German. Try looking for it in present-day texts from Germany. Good luck, @spoe.at, @oevpwien.bsky.social, @neos.eu und @gruenewien.bsky.social! Godspeed!
@rauschermri.bsky.social summarizes the "succus".
Austrian Word of the Week 63 is a beauty: Sukkus, der (formal in Standard AutG for 'essence'). As in the attached passage from today's @derstandard.at: der Sukkus der FPร ist: alles ganz normal. Mitnichten! Nothing is normal with a postfascist party vying for head of government. Fire in the roof!
Make Bread not War. What is the felon president were to announce Bread for all not Tariffs at will? One trick pony, that man
Congratulations. That's huge!
Voordrachter รคr bรคst!
True. Keep in mind: they "Saujud" (swine + Jew) to channel their anger, now they use "criminal immigrants". You know what happened next with six million Jews. Why go there at all, America? Demob you language as a first step. Immigrants are not criminals. POTUS, however, is a convicted felon. Fact!

Thank you, thank you. *I* should rather showcase CED (Canadian English Dictionary), since it is probably the most exciting project in Canadian linguistics this side of the millennium for the next half century. Language historians think ร la longue durรฉe, n'est-ce pas?
