Removing fact checking from platforms and allowing a community to police itself allows manipulation of information. Not down-weighting misinformation is amplifying it.
The voices of vulnerable people who need to be heard are shouted down.
The right wing are becoming more and more emboldened, the AfD look likely to do well in Germany and there are simpering obituaries for Le Pen.
So what?
The more “normal” the kinds of language and attitudes exhibited by the right are seen to be the more people exhibit these behaviours

It’s a small and probably insignificant thing, but feels kind of big given the impact Twitter has had on my career, keeping in touch with people and more, but so many other people have left now too it’s so much less of a concern.
And screw the cesspit of shit that platform has become.
Starting 2025 off positively by deleting my X account. 16 years of Twitter for me, so many good people met and connections made, but when over 50% of my notifications are from right wing loonies I am out.
I’m not creating anything for a platform that promotes people like that.
