that aside, got the week off work because of Dying Syndrome [nasty cold] and have been slowly kicking my art block by working on potential concept art for a potential game with my confirmed friends.

idk, I'm still in the throes of sick and my words aren't the clearest, but there's a tie between the AAA/realism push, the push toward aesthetics over stylization, and the loss of the miis. In short: [5/5]

It was also a little relieving today during the direct seeing that the noses are the same noses I had 12 years ago. The miis acted as caricatures that you HAD to adapt to instead of making them as cutesy as possible [which was also possible! but it wasn't the ONLY option!] [4/]

And I know that sounds like a stretch, and pointing to any multi-billion dollar company as an example of regression is stupid, but when the sequel to wii sports [the game with miis in it] no longer has miis as a mascot/focal point and instead has cocomelon ass characters, it's odd. [3/]

I'd watched a breakdown of different mii games and how we've been seeing them included less and less after being a mascot for upwards of 2 DECADES at this point, and it really highlighted a point that I've been thinking about for a while: we're regressing into the "pretty = good/ugly = bad" mindset.

Anyway not to be the friend who's too woke but I'm genuinely so tired of every industry being pared down to what's aesthetically pleasing [either visually, sexually, or marketably]. [1/]
