But, by the time I get through the veggies and protein, I don't even want the rice/mac. Here is today's lunch.
There are white navy beans hiding behind the steak and a rice pilaf that would go on to feel like it didn't belong. ๐

These insights alone have changed my plate strategy. My goal is to slow down the glucose production, so I eat the leafy carbs (half plate) and a good amount of protein (third of plate), and then a carb like rice or dare I say...mac and cheese.
- Oatmeal is in...kinda. Even if I add chia and flaxseed, it spikes my blood sugar to "pushups and exertion fast!" levels.
If I add a scoop of protein powder, it's stays within the normal range and looks more like a gradual hill with a gentle decline.
- Dried mango is out except for when needed during a workout when my blood sugar goes low.
Even with fiber beforehand, it spikes the shit out of my blood sugar. I'm talking "ah fuck, I need to go walk around the block." I've been eating these at work for a couple years. ๐ฑ
Ok, the continuous glucose monitoring is already game-changing. There's no more speculating about how foods and activities impact me. Here are a few early insights:
You too!๐๐พ
Managers are humans with their own shit just like you. Sometimes you gotta take the lead. That's part of managing up.
I also encourage you to reset with your manager on how you wanna work together this year, and what you wanna get out of 2025 as part of your career development.
Don't wait for them to do it because you think they "should."
Today's the first day back at work for many of us. Start the year with boundaries and putting times for self (marked private) on the calendar that you'll push back on if colleagues schedule over them.
Being a team player doesn't mean making yourself available all the time. (1/3) #careeradvice
I'm officially on Team Continuous Glucose Monitor. This prediabetes ain't gonna reverse itself! The better I understand how food and different lifestyle factors impact blood sugar, the better choices I can make long-term.
Also, I'm already addicted to looking at the app. ๐
Thanks! I've been walking around with my chest puffed out since. ๐
There's a lot more (struggled with alcohol, navigating trauma healing/cPTSD, etc) but I'm not trying to have a 20 message thread. lol
I'll be sharing my journey here, including exercises from my weightlifting, plyometric, and technical track workouts.
I also keep it very real about challenges I'm facing. For example, I recently learned I'm prediabetic and I'm working to reverse it.
What's good, BlueSky? I'm celebrating recently becoming a member of the 40+ dunk club (I'm 41)!
I hadn't dunked a basketball since 2005, but through training for masters track and field, I got (some of) my hops back and threw it down a few days ago.
