Laajemmin turvallisuuneuvoston päätöslauselman hakeminen ja saaminen osoittaa, että monista ”YK on turha tai romahtanut” puheista huolimatta ja oikeutetusta kritiikistä järjestöä ja sen tehottomuutta kohtaan YK:lla ja turvallisuusneuvostolla on edelleen tärkeä rooli kv. turvallisuuskysymyksissä.
YK:n turvallisuusneuvoston päätöslauselma legitimoi Trumpin rauhansuunnitelmaa ja erityisesti suunniteltujen vakauttamisjoukkojen muodostamista. Tämä lienee monelle niihin mahdollisesti osallistuvalle maalle tärkeää.

Joo siis toki sormien läpi katsominen on yhteistyön tavoitteiden näkökulmasta ongelmallista, Suomihan on tukenut juuri demokraattista kehitystä ja hyvää hallintoa. Toisaalta kaiken tuen jäädyttäminen/lopettaminen tuskin vaikuttaisi haluamallamme tavalla? Diplomatiaa ja uudelleen kohdentamista?
Uutiset el-Fasherista ovat kammottavia. Siviileihin kohdistuneen väkivallan laajuus edelleen luultavasti aliarvioitu ja vain pieni osa ihmisistä päässyt pakenemaan. Tämän viimeistään pitää nostaa koordinoitua painetta sodan mahdollistajia kohtaan, mm UAE:ta!

Hyvä, että tästä kirjoitetaan. Tällainen demokratian rapautuminen ja vallan väärinkäyttö ovat juuri niitä tekijöitä, jotka ajan myötä laskevat demokratian suosita ja legitimoivat esim sotilaaallisia johtajia vallankaappaukseen.

In my interview with Phoenix about #ElFasher #Sudan, I also spoke about the massive aid cuts globally including by Germany. Germany spends less than half on Sudan this year than it did in 2024, despite the country still being a priority.

Today's seminar focused on the decline of global development and possible ways forward. The speakers discussed topics such as the role of global aid in mitigating human suffering, states' justifications for withdrawing from global development, and the interdependence between poverty and conflict.
The article contributes to the strategic culture discussion by shedding light to the interaction between the EU and member states levels in policy, strategic narrative, and practice change. The study is empirically rich, consisting of two parts and drawing on both primary and secondary data.
We approach the question through the lenses of strategic culture and examine the dynamics of strategic narratives, policy, and practice evolution of EU institutions and four member states. Our findings point to a changed strategic narrative and an evolving practice regarding EU military assistance.
The use of the European Peace Facility (EPF) to provide lethal aid to Ukraine marked a significant shift in the EU’s security and defence policy. We wanted to see whether this "breaking of taboos" was just that (and an exception) or whether it reflected and/or perhaps catalysed a broader change.

Nobel-viikko! Itse uskon, että Sudanin Emergency Response Roomsit ovat korkealla ehdokkaina, myös toimittajien asemaan ja suojeluun keskittyvät tahot ja muut autoritaarisia hallintoja vastustavat toimijat varmasti nähdään keskeisinä meidän ajallemme.
EU haluaa Kallaksen mukaan olla muutakin kuin maksaja Palestiinan suhteen. Löytyyköhän tähän yhteistä visiota siitä, mitä EU mahdollisessa siirtymäkauden hallinnossa haluaisi/ajaisi/tukisi? Tai miten EU arvottaa omaa pääsyään pöytiin suhteessa palestiinalaisten toimijuuteen?

🔎 Today's seminar "Geopolitical Competition and Conflict Dynamics in the Horn of Africa" addressed the multifaceted and internationalised dimensions of the Sudan conflict within the broader Horn of Africa context.

The question of who is empowered through negotiations and what the consequences of transactional peacemaking are for civilians and civic actors were high on the agenda in a seminar @fiia.fi had the honor to co-organize today with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the @finnchurchaid.bsky.social.
One of the points I stress is the rationality and imperative of supporting the vibrant and diverse civil society actors in Sudan, not because it’s morally good but because it makes sense from a strategic point of view.
