I will also say that it’s a bit wild to me that no press freedom organization or professional journalistic association has tried to contact me or even put out a statement here.

I mean Jesus Christ. A little solidarity from institutions would be nice here!

It is not understandable for physicians to be assholes, especially not family practitioners.

Specialists are often assholes, and the more specialized they are, the more they tend to treat patients like noisy pieces of meat.

But GPs should be not-assholes, at the very minimum,

I'm really glad that 404 Media correctly called out the "Proton did not provide any information to the FBI" line as disingenuous. It's not a good sign when a provider is more interested in playing semantic games than realistically explaining their threat model.

So far, thirty-three J6 defendants have faced unrelated criminal charges since being pardoned, with six of them involving the sexual molestation of children.

I want to say this really gently: If you don't read romance, you don't really know whether I am or am not making fair or smart critiques of a given romance subgenre.

Jay Silverheels leaning around the corner of a rough adobe wall, wearing a fringed buckskin-style shirt and a thin headband across his forehead. His dark hair is combed back. He holds a revolver in his right hand while looking cautiously to the right. Behind him are stacked adobe bricks and a wooden doorway, creating a Western-style setting.

Jay Silverheels was a gifted Canadian lacrosse player who turned to acting.
While he gained fame as Tonto in The Lone Ranger, he disliked how the character was written.
So, he chose to use his fame to help other Indigenous actors in Hollywood.
This is his story.

Me: I started the year slow, but I've read SO MANY books in the last five weeks. When do I start getting smarter?

Him: You did. It's done.

Me: Nah. I'm the same.

Him: You've failed to consider how much dumber you would have gotten if you hadn't read all those books. It's preventative maintenance.

The Earth is also terrible, and dark, and cruel. The rabbit shrieks dying in the green meadows. The mountains clench their great hands full of hidden fire. There are sharks in the sea, and there is cruelty in men’s eyes.

She’d Never Changed Her Gender Marker. Kansas Invalidated Her License Anyway. β€” Assigned A trans Kansas resident recently changed her name but not her gender marker on her license, fearing what Kansas may do if she did. The Kansas DMV still flagged her ID.

This story, from @natezuke.bsky.social, is absolutely wild. A trans woman who never changed her gender marker was issued a letter invalidating her license. At the DMV they cut up her license, which had an "M" marker.

Today was an important day for the opposition movement. The law firms that stood up against Donald Trump threats won.

Those that capitulated and collaborated with Trump will need to explain to their families, clients and future generations why when democracy was at stake they were such cowards.

The New York Times has no choice but to publish every vile right wing editorial that is submitted to them. A wizard cast a geas on them. "Please," they beg, "Give us one day where we do not devote page after page to manufacturing consent!"
The wizard laughs at their pain.

After the Great Toronto Fire of 1904, the decision was made to build a new train terminal in the city. It took two decades before the building was open. Today, it is the second busiest train terminal in North America.
This is the story of Toronto's Union Station.

Did you know that the bees that need saving are NOT honeybees?

Honeybees are the dairy cows of bees. People brought them over from Europe to make us honey.

The problem with honeybees, esp in resource-limited ecosystems (like hey! cities!) is that they compete with our native bees for food.

It would be good for housing to be a not-so-good investment.

The fact that it is used as an investment makes it necessary for it to pay better than other investments.

This makes policy setters, aka property owners, set policies that make property values go up.

I was born in an Iranian prison. My parents were held in their jails. My uncles lie in their mass graves.
Nothing you can tell me about the crimes of the Iranian regime that I haven't lived in blood and bone.
That doesn't mean I want my people bombed, maimed, killed, their homes in ruins.
If your vision of liberation comes only through the destruction of innocent lives, then it's not freedom you're after.

I am pro Iranian people. I stand with them against their own government’s repression AND against the imperial violence in the form of bombs dropped from the sky from Israel & the US who have already killed hundreds.

I support neither imperialism or dictatorship.
