Oh, certainly! I'm sure that would be hard w/ Zorn, too! But what was really challenging?! Brown! Tho, now that someone explained to me that "Brown is just orange with context", it makes a lot more sense!

Neat! After this, you should try the Zorn palette! You only get Yellow Ochre, Ivory Black, Vermillion/Red, and White, and have to mix other colors as needed. This guy was done that way!

From a rock and fossil auction site, anthracite peacock coal. It's dark black, but with a rainbow sheen on shiny exposed surfaces. Photographed on a white paper towel.

Such a pretty rock! But the US burns about 500 million tons of this stuff each year.

You're looking at anthracite coal. The surface layers sometimes produce something we call "peacock coal."

Let's talk about the chemistry & physics of iridescent coal.
