@spocksbrain

Oh hey thatβs me, doing what I love to do most: composing stories out of ephemera.
Keep our neighbors safe from ICE! Donate $10 or more to a MN rent relief fund & get a free zine. Email your receipt to hello@paranoidtree.com by February 28.
Rent is due on Monday and many in our Twin Cities community are still trapped at home, meaning they can't work to pay rent.
Can you help us keep our neighbors housed?
Donate $10+ to one of these rent relief funds & we'll send you a free zine as thanks. π

Today our government is bombing children in a school, while regular people are engaging in incredible acts of mutual aid to keep each other fed and housed.
Fuck empire.
Fuck the concentrated wealth and power that makes this death machine possible.
@repangiecraig.bsky.social and @ilhanmn.bsky.social visited whipple today and were told there are roughly 500 DHS agents left in Minnesota. Thatβs still nearly twice what invaded Chicago. www.msn.com/en-us/news/u...
Abolish DHS.
Prosecute their crimes.
Bring our neighbors home.
Thereβs a reason heβs on a national press tour. Itβs because 1) no one likes him here who isnβt paid to like him and 2) heβs not here helping anyone
Mayor Frey refused to support a unanimous call from the city council to ask Gov. Walz for an eviction moratorium to support our most vulnerable neighbors and now everyone's having to crowdfund rent.
Not calling anyone out but calibrate your messages to reflect two truths:
1. ICE is shifting their enforcement emphasis to the suburbs, exurbs and greater Minnesota.
2. ICE is still very much in the central cities.

I got asked to boost the rent fund for Whittier Elementaryβs Wolfpack organizing team.
They paid 70 rents for February and are committed to paying March rent for 120 families.
Theyβve still got ground to cover and could use support getting more eyes on their fund:

Think the general wisdom is short story collections are way harder to get trad published if you donβt already have longer work out (with notable exceptions, i.e. Kelly Link).
Happy belated Valentine's Day, I suppose! This is the story that made me want to write short fiction again. I love it dearly. If you read this and like it (or if you hate it, Iβm not picky!), consider dropping lgbtbookstoprisoners.org five bucks.
Thinking about the story, "What Haunts the Newbuild?" by Meagan Kane.
If you haven't read or listen to it yet, you can find it on @pseudopod.org at pseudopod.org/2026/02/06/p...
This story just lingers in you. It's so good.
I DID steal that line from the short story itself (βI Wish You Died Laughingβ by Lio Abendan), but it IS the sort of line that gets you hyped to read a story
Also obligatory fundraiser posting: I live in MPLS where a lot of families are still hurting for rent. This fundraiser is run by an org that I trust to redistribute the $$ fairly rapidly; donate if you can. www.gofundme.com/f/a4ar9-twin...

Like, when every kid feels safe enough to go back to school, we can talk.
Thereβs a vote in DC tomorrow that would give DHS $11 billion more in funding. Schumer and Jeffries have already walked back any βdemandsβ they had for DHS.
I, for one, do not think this timing is just a coincidence. Turn down the temp for the vote. Turn it right back up when the bag is secured.
always a healthy sign when i'm spending multiple hours a night staring at flight trackers. always good and productive too.
State Patrol is up again (plane/copter).

Posting this again because I'm quite proud of this short story. Why is no one asking how the house felt. Perhaps the tenant simply had hauntable vibes. (Also pls donate to the Yesod Fund www.yesodfund.org or a comparable fund of your choice to help ppl in the Twin Cities make rent & buy groceries.)
They were open for a brief moment a week or two ago! But then they ran out of the 50k they had for the fund so it closed quick. Not that it necessarily matters, but just to say thereβs been dedication to getting money to people ASAP.

The No ICE in Minnesota Charity Bundle has officially LAUNCHED!

Weβve paid rent for over 270 households so far in February and we currently have a waitlist that totals over $30,000.
We distributed rents one by one.
We canβt even think about March rent yet.
You can help us here: gofund.me/5d4d1a571
Thank you!
And (last one, I promise) Whittier Alliance www.whittieralliance.org/donate is a neighborhood association currently accepting donations for neighbors in need--I 100% trust they will go to the right people. Okay, thanks, enjoy the haunted houses.
www.yesodfund.org is currently closed to applications for assistance because they ran out of their available funds in sixteen hours. They're run by Shir Tikvah, who are great, and the fund is great, and I hope they can get enough donations to open again soon.
www.miwrc.org/donate runs a warming center, which is especially critical at the moment, given the unknown amount of evictions that may happen soon. www.givemn.org/story/Renter... provides low-barrier rental relief to mpls renters every month.
I live in Minneapolis, on land stolen from its original & current inhabitants, in the middle of a federal occupation. A monstrous amount of people in my community cannot afford their rent this month. I would be remiss in not pointing ppl towards a couple different organizations/needs:
