At the age of 16, she was told she wouldn't be able to carry her own child.

โThe Victorian Parliament has passed laws banning unnecessary medical interventions on children born with variations in sex characteristics.โ
This is great news! We need our laws to affirm bodily autonomy, especially for intersex people enduring institutional violence.

I have found way more commonality of experiences with my friends, in the greater intersex community, than I ever expected to.
It has been a slow, steady learning process to see just how much we truly have in common, despite the fact that our differences areโฆ wellโฆ quite different from each other.

Trans Bill of Rights Reintroduced in Congress. Our allies in Congress are showing what it looks like to fight for trans rights
What is the trans bill of rights? This resolution affirms that the federal government has a responsibility to protect transgender and nonbinary people from discrimination in everyday life, including in: -Healthcare, including access to gender-affirming care. Housing and homelessness services - Employment and workplace protections -Education and access to public spaces -Immigration proceedings -The armed services and veterans affairs -Safety, bodily autonomy, and robust civil rights enforcement
The Transgender Bill of Rights also supports intersex bodily autonomy & human rights! The resolution calls for a ban on nonconsensual surgeries on intersex children. Every person deserves to feel safe and accepted and have the freedom to make decisions for their own bodies.
When a bill seeks to redefine gender based on reproductive systems, what does it mean for intersex people? The @texastribune.org talks to intersex Texans on the risks they see, like increased nonconsensual surgeries on children to fit them into these categories.
www.texastribune.org/2026/02/11/t...
The best proof that sex is a social construct is how cultures treat their intersex populationโesp. their medical practices around intersex newborns and kids, and what they hide/โfixโ about them so they can lead โnormalโ lives.
I wish it werenโt that controversial/provocative ๐ซ

Note that the public can submit comments on the proposed rules until FEBRUARY 17TH. Make your voice heard!
ACTION ALERT (image of a megaphone) You can comment on proposed Trump administration rules attacking care for trans youth, carving out intersex genital mutilation
What intersex people should know: The proposed rules have exceptions for โtreatingโ a โmedically verifiable disorder of sex development.โ These arenโt about guaranteeing access โ they are exceptions for intersex genital mutilation on infants and young children.Intersex youth who need coverage for care like hormones could face hurdles to โproveโ their variation qualifies. Coverage might still be denied if care does not align with sex stereotypes. Both trans and intersex patients could lose access to clinics whose funding is at risk.
The Trump administration proposed two regulations in December attacking gender-affirming care for trans youth and punishing hospitals for providing this care. Both include carveouts for intersex genital mutilation.
The rules are NOT FINAL. You can push back. www.americanprogress.org/article/how-...

Yes - care may depend on what sex is listed on a birth certificate. Even for intersex people seeking care the state sees as aligned with their sex, they are likely to have more barriers and steps to prove their intersex variation.
There is no "carveout" that guarantees healthcare for intersex youth-there are exceptions for intersex genital mutilation in infancy and childhood. Youth who need care like hormones will face hurdles to "prove" they qualify. Coverage might still be denied if care doesn't align with sex stereotypes.
