The bracket for our annual March Madness Tenkaichi Tournament, wherein we have 64 Dragon Ball characters face off in various non-fighting contests. This year: Who would win in a Dating Game showdown? Fill out a bracket, if you'd like. If we get 20 entries, we'll give away a blu-ray of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. If we get 50...I'll throw in some Final Forum merch. If we get 100...I'll think of something additional and cool. I doubt we'll get more than 10, though, as that's been our history when attempting contests.

This is a #contest & #giveaway with #freestuff. If we get good response, we'll do more. If not, we still have fun on these tournaments!

We have 64 different Dragon Ball characters in 4 different regions, seeded by a sort of general "gut feel" of popularity supplemented with online rankings so let's break them down...

Year 1 - 1-on-1 basketball. Winner: Future Trunks
Year 2 - Halo. Winner: Emperor Pilaf
Year 3 - Iron Chef. Winner: Mr. Satan
Year 4 - Trivia Battle. Winner: Bulma

Tournaments are THE THING in Dragon Ball. They're what made it popular and often everyone's favorite arcs, so we thought we should do one also, but ANYONE can do a Dragon Ball fighting tournament so we thought "What if we did tournaments, but not for FIGHTING?"...

It's our annual March Madness Tenkaichi Tournament!

...sort of the inverse of Shin Godzilla from that POV: a movie intended to be anti-imperialism & anti-war that reads as "Japan was at its greatest when fighting wars" whereas Shin is a movie intended to be a rallying cry for Japanese nationalism that a lot of Americans don't interpret that way.

I've softened on this film a bit having heard an interview with Omori where he talked about the themes and his intentions, but I do think he fumbled it a little bit in he movie itself...

Mr. Satan goes from arguably the most annoying character in the franchise to one of my favorites.

Still so much more legible than most modern manga. As influential as Toriyama was, it's a shame more mangaka didn't adopt his style.

Always thought DB was included in the Viz subscription...I own it physically, so I've never checked...

There's not really a moral or a point here, like there often is with our threads, and I wouldn't make a trip TO the Philippines just for Amana...but if I ever found myself there? For $4.32? I'd absolutely go pose with these off-kilter statues for the kitsch entertainment value of it.

Insanely(?) this isn't the only Waterpark in The Philippines with Dragon Ball statues surrounding a pool. This picture is from Campuestohan Highland Resort, in Talisay City, on Negros Island, in the Philippines as well. Less information was available about this park

Here's some more pictures...including the state of disrepair some of the statues have fallen into...mind you, the picture of the statue of Frieza missing an arm is posted on the OFFICIAL WEBSITE of Amana, which is its own level of ironic hilarity.

Sadly(?) the Dragon Ball pool is just the kiddie pool, and aside from statues it doesn't employ much to evoke the theme. It's also VERY likely unlicensed usage, given the Philippines' more lax rules on copyright law, and the general aesthetic, but it's an interesting footnote in Dragon Ball history.

The park has areas dedicated to Avengers/MCU, X-Men, Justice League, Indiana Jones, Batman, Jurassic Park, Avatar/Pandora, Transformers, Lord of the Rings/Gollum, and of course, where it came to our attention: Dragon Ball.

The park is located in Pandi, Bulacan, claiming easy accessibility via Public Transportation from Manila, and sits ~50 km (~30 miles) North of the Philippines' capital city. It boasts the Philippines' largest wave pool, multiple themed-areas, and an absurdly low entrance fee (<$5 US)
