It's always great fun presenting Aviation Weather School (Part 2). See the lights 'switch on' as I show pilots how they can use skew-T's to forecast flying conditions days in advance and how quickly they can use them. This is the sample sent on Saturday with a forecast for 7-days time.

A cloudy day for many on Sunday as the strong southwest wind brings moist air from the Atlantic. Most rain west and south although not large totals. A few bright moments in central and eastern areas. Widespread low cloud and mist west and south. Mild for all.

Just about to start Aviation Weather School (Part 2). It's quick and easy to get flying more using skew-t's, 500hPa charts and more. Forecasting cloud bases, tops, freezing levels, winds, showers, rain, mist and fog are all on the cards tonight, as well as spotting trends out to 15-days ahead.

Here's what skew-t's can tell us about our flying day (you can use them for planning days ahead in the same way). Today's a great example of waking up (in Halfpenny Green) to a murky start, but being assured that the day is going to improve. It's quick easy and reliable.

The positive weather story for Sunday is that for most it is not as wet. However, there will still be plenty of cloud around. Morning rain, some heavy in Scotland, slowly clearing north. Then bits of rain and showers elsewhere, especially the west. Mild.

There are some early signs of models signalling a return to colder conditions from the middle of next week. It's knife-edge stuff again; mild air west, cold air east and the British Isles in-between. But this is a growing and more consistent story. One to watch!

The low pressure named Storm Goretti is expected to track east through southern England Thursday and Friday. The northern side of the low could bring significant snowfall, but height of ground, precipitation intensity, temperature and dew point will all play their part in where gets snow & how much.

Subtle change in wind direction today (Sunday), backing a little more to the northwest, means snow showers driving further inland over Wales and southwest England, and less onshore in eastern England. Radar shows this really well.
