I like how that still implies the expectation that the thing will indeed be done

When does the actually take place? Seems to me like Sinners has lots of momentum right now but if the votes are already cast that’s irrelevant, and if they’re not cast for a few more weeks that momentum might quiet?

That’s better than my approach of posting a thought onto a public social media platform to try it out, and by the time I’ve thought better of it it’s been screenshotted and shared in WhatsApp groups around the world

The remarkable split-screen underscored how abruptly Kristi Noem's ouster as homeland security secretary had unfolded, even by the standards of President Trump's fast-paced Washington.

Is there another word that works like β€œouster” – where the -er form fulfils the role you’d usually expect of an -ing gerund?

There are of course writing prizes that are not publishing prizes! Booker e.g. Although tbf a book that isn’t well published isn’t going to win anything, no matter the quality of the text.

It should probably be given to the editor or marketer rather than the author tbh. Though in the case of the likes of Osman the author’s profile sort of is the marketing campaign.

It’s very much a publishing prize not a writing prize. It takes account of things like β€œwhat sort of publicity did it get” and β€œhow many copies did it sell”
