It's also, I hope, exposure therapy. Growing up a secular kid who had to go to Sunday school as some kind of "favor" to my grandma has given me a permanent ick that I think is justified as far as organized religion goes, but bothers me too much for my own liking in terms of the stories themselves.
The slightly more serious version of this is that I've had it in my mind that I need to read it for like a decade so I'm not lost when allegories are made in Western media, up there with Shakespeare
The first book I'm committing to reading in 2026 is ✝️ THE HOLY BIBLE ✝️ mainly so that I can then read what was going to be my actual first book, Moby Dick (this Ishmael bitch will not stop yapping about the Bible)
