11) because she did such a captivating, eye-opening, and insightful job in her first book! Do what you want with this information but this is my take. Half His Age is being passed along to a friend that I hope will enjoy it more than I did.

10) This was a book with no real purpose. It lacked real substance. It didn’t give me anything and it certainly took my life hours that I can’t get back (like many things I’ve wasted time over - so, so many bad films). I don’t recommend this and am disappointed in Jennette wasting talent on this…
9) this is a teenager and a 40-year-old like wtf am I supposed to think about this? It’s not sexy, it’s weird to me. I digress! I feel like Jennette wrote this to say “I’m an adult now and can write smut for the masses” and she did. She did accomplish that and made, undoubtedly, a ton of money…
8) the end of the book, which rushed everything into one big learning curve and a classic drive off into the sunset with some sense of independence. I skipped over the smut in this review because it was not my thing. They have intercourse numerous times and I just skimmed over it…
7) into very well at all. His real perspective isn’t exactly missing, but it’s lacking. The main character received no real criticism, not even from her best friend, which is the ONLY person she told. She also doesn’t get caught, doesn’t get into trouble, doesn’t have any real epiphanies until…
6) falling for the main Character’s pursuit and kind of caves pretty quickly. There are no repercussions for this man’s actions. His wife, his job, his family, friends, etc. all never find out. He leaves his wife at the end of the book and has some moments of falling apart that just doesn’t dive…
5) however their placement doesn’t always fit with a 17-year-old. I felt like I was still reading things from the perspective of a woman my age, which Jennette is, especially when it came to the smut. The teacher in this tale is an average Joe kinda guy with a wife and young kid who ends up…
4) incredibly flat. So much so, that I felt like I read it before. The main character for me is semi relatable from the societal commentary and views of people in her world. Consumerism, day-to-day niceties, doom-scrolling and dopamine-chasing boredom in the digital age, etc. all good valid points..
3) or that she had to watch her mother choose a man over her repeatedly and has the same obsessive impulses with the ideology that a man will fix everything in life. That a man is the answer, even if neglectful or selfish. The psychological aspect is a stage set for a story that falls so…
2) The subject matter of a 17-year-old becoming obsessed with her teacher and falling ‘in love’ with him is already a hard concept to stomach. The reader can grasp that her father abandoning her and her mom at a young age would make her seek a father figure in a romantic way, sure…
I read Jennette McCurdy’s latest book “Half His Age” which comes after a really good, autobiographical read “I’m Glad My Mom Died” so I dumped my trust into this, got the signed copy, and guess what? It was a complete and total waste of my time!✨ Spoilers below

Sorry I didn’t understand 😅 also the app put a weird intolerance warning on your posts for some reason
What
Yeah so you’re missing my point which is I’m pro conservation and rehabilitation, just not a fan of displaying animals for people’s amusement for the sake of conservation and rehabilitation. You feel me? Theres other ways to go about it. Just my take.
Well he’s an endangered fresh water creature which deserves its natural habitat that is currently not clean enough due to human pollution and predatory fish. We could do better.
1) yes I’m aware
2) yes I’m aware
3) captive bred animals don’t need an audience tapping on their cages, yelling at them to move, making fun, etc. and emotion and care towards animals and their well-being is not a bad thing.
4) bonus! You don’t have to agree with my thoughts or opinions or feelings
I’m not against conservation or rehabilitation for animals. I just don’t really agree that putting them on display is the right call. I think there’s other ways we can learn about animals without resorting to this, but this is my opinion.
Omg I’m hit with the memory of sea monkey pets and how weird that was too!
Hey, soooo I know that thanks! :D
But can we assume that animals are happy in a confined glass environment with children slapping their hands against it from 8-5 every single day? Sounds like hell to me! 🌈 thanks for providing nothing of value to the conversation 😌
Yes but does raising awareness require in-person interaction? Do people have to see the animal in an aquarium to be aware of it?
I look healthy and well cared for but inside I have anxiety and panic disorder… my point is that just because an animal looks healthy doesn’t mean it’s happy and it doesn’t mean that being on display is okay. Animals can’t give consent you know :/
What the actual fuck
Just because it looks right doesn’t mean that it is right. I could be well fed and physically healthy but I can be depressed at the same time. Doesn’t sit right with me to see animals in cages. You don’t have to agree with me.
This is the stance that I’ve come to realize myself 🙏🏻 thank you for your input!
Ok but the negative emotion triggered further curiosity and critical thinking. It made me wonder why people justify the act of putting animals on display. It made me want to talk about it. That is a good thing. Emotions are not facts but they can lead you down different paths it’s not black & white.
People really just can’t comprehend that they are part of the animal kingdom and just because we have the ability to think and act intelligently compared to other animals doesn’t give us the right to put them in cages on display like we really need to take care of earth better. As a whole.
He makes some valid points and who’s to say that the creatures are in good hands just because they serve a purpose of populating a dying species. We can say oh it’s good they’re being bred and preserved sure but also what kind of life is that for them? Can we auto assume good things?
Yeah I do understand the nuances of it I just can’t stomach seeing them like that it puts me in a weird mental place even if it is for conservation and good things :/ I do know that it’s not all bad like many many things in this world
I don’t know you’re right but it did make me feel a negative emotion and did make me think about wildlife. How do we actually know what animals feel? We don’t but I can tell you if I saw the same thing every single day and had kids banging at glass in my face I would be pretty down. Makes you think!
