A cover of the UK Comics Fund proposal with a cartoon pencil and the CCIC boat, next to the phrase βweβre asking DCMS for solid investment in comicsβ
Be amazing if Β£1.5m could be invested in the UK comics scene, wouldnβt it? Someoneβd need to build a fully-costed, well-reasoned argument to DCMS for such a thing first, I guessβ¦

In her memory, we would like to share Naomi's comic for LWC:OS (drawn by the wonderful Sara Julia Campbell).
When putting the LWC:OS anthology together, we made the decision for Naomi's to be the opening story; welcoming readers into the conversation about cancer with open and comforting arms.

We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Naomi, one of the incredible people who shared her story for "Living With Cancer: Our Stories". Naomi was a ray of light, kindness, and joy, and it was truly an honour and a privilege to have worked with her to share her story.

A short excerpt from a comic by Ashling who introduces Living with Cancer: Our Stories. Ashling's mum was diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, in 2018. When it came to information, Ashling's family had no idea what to expect or what support was out there.
Page 1 of Naomi's story, art by Sara Julia Campbell. On April 1st 2016 Naomi was diagnosed with Grade 2 Astrocytoma in the brain. Naomi is stunned with this information, saying it must be the worst april fool's joke ever. She was on 20 years old at this diagnosis. She holds a small heart shaped stone in her hand for comfort.
An illustration of a sloth holding onto a branch with the phrase Don't Rush Yourself in large pink bubble writing around it. This illustration by Sarah Holliday reminds anyone going through tough times to go easy on themselves and take life at their own pace.
βLiving With Cancer: Our Storiesβ aims to provide support through personal experiences with the disease as told through the medium of comics.

Two short single page comics about Ashling and Cat starting CHIP Collective. Ashling details how her school experience was tough with undiagnosed ADHD but upon starting university realised that she had an aptitude for storytelling, analysis and creative work. Ashling now does a lot of work in graphic medicine and information comics, working with doctors, researchers and charities to make scientific and medical concepts and terminology more accessible.
Meanwhile Cat found that their grades weren't good enough to pursue art in university and took forensic science for two years instead. after two years they found themselves struggling still so left university, built a portfolio and retried for illustration. They graduate in 2016 with an honours in illustration and now teaches in institutions across scotland as well as developing their own creative practice.
Here's a little information about the co-founders of CHIP!
@ashlingdraws.bsky.social (left) and @tsundernova.bsky.social (right) banded together to create CHIP after bonding over their shared experiences of working in Graphic Medicine and Information Comics and have never looked back since.
