$500/Hour Lawyer: “I think you may have a case here…”
NIMBY: “But I am retired and don’t have any money to pay you. All of my wealth is tied up in my house.”
Lawyer: “You said that your kids moved out of state because they couldn’t afford rent here. You could sell the furniture they left behind…”

I can’t imagine being so desperate to keep people out of your neighborhood that you would hawk your belongings to pay lawyers for a lawsuit that you will clearly lose.

Nice to the see the article focusing on the cost savings.
The cost of driving is about $1,000 per month per AAA. If a person starting their career took transit instead and invested the savings in a retirement fund they would have $4.8 million when they retire.

Cities can set their speeds at whatever level they want, but can’t use radar enforcement without the 85th percentile survey. They can still use pacing and visual estimation for enforcement.

About 25 years ago, while working for the City of Glendale, a Dial-a-Ride customer submitted official court papers showing he changed his name to “Robert Duvall.” I wondered if he genuinely respected him or if it was something nefarious. He may have been his number one fan.

I often wonder if there are wastewater groupies that coerce civil engineers into buying certain turbines for a pump station or hospital groupies that outline how many and what model of MRI machines a new hospital should have.

Funny how no one sketches out where power substations or sewer lines should go—too technical, defer to the pros. But transit rail maps? Everyone’s an expert. Difference is: utilities follow demand. Transit advocates often draw what THEY want and ignore existing riders.

Issue is airport users have three to five times higher incomes than average Metro riders. It would be a huge capital with little utility beyond the existing rail connections.

The cuts in the slides are intended to scare people into voting for the tax. BART is operating the same amount of service as they did pre-pandemic with less than half the ridership. The responsible action would be to rationalize service levels based of loads. No need to cut stations or hours.

BART should close stations based on if the local cities plan to comply with or fight implementation of SB79.

I haven’t ever used Airbnb, but for those of you who have, there are other options like VRBO or booking directly with the owner. This company does not deserve your money.

It would have been a more complete critique to include that the Purple Line is an ill-conceived transit project and being the “North Star” for RideSD is an indication they are heading in the wrong direction compared to the priorities of San Diegans that rely on public transit.

These are too vague. A project list and annual amount should have been developed and agreed to by stakeholders before implementation. The City has lost the trust of residents and businesses in the existing meter districts by removing public and stakeholder feedback on how the money is spent.

How Metered Parking Helped Save Old Pasadena
YouTube video by NYC DOT
He would say the City’s critical mistake was not committing to new projects for park stakeholders. Stakeholders perceive money will be used to close existing deficits. They should have developed an infrastructure wish list and committed to spending 50% on it. youtube.com/shorts/GQWlh...

These main streets were the centers of small towns that grew together over time. Commuting between them only became feasible with the freeway system. Nobody would have lived in Redlands and commuted to Pasadena back then, but it is possible now.

Padres set to open 50-seat upscale cocktail lounge near Petco Park
Diamond Room, a ’70s-themed bar, will open Friday in the former City Tacos location near Gallagher Square
This article is BS. The Padres kicked out popular City Tacos which competed with their stadium food business and are replacing it with a bar that will be owned by them. It will be open shorter hours and goes against their commitment in Measure C. www.sandiegouniontribune.com/2026/01/12/p...

San Diego City Councilmember Has A Proposal For Reducing Downtown Parking Fees
Raul Campillo has a "5/5/5 Plan" that would revamp Special Events rates at parking meters
So why would this 5/5/5 plan not also make sense for private lots in Downtown? Seems like the same logic would apply. Some of the businesses charging $50-$90 for parking during special events are the same ones complaining about the City rates being too high. thesandiegosun.com/san-diego-ci...

There are some people that can’t drive, but making transit worse pushes most low income riders into other more expensive options like driving or taking Uber. Even low income riders understand the value of their time.

Spaces as Places | City of San Diego Official Website
Businesses can still get permits for a “streetary”, but Monzu choose to get a permit for a sidewalk cafe instead. Difference between COVID and now is businesses need to pay the City to use public space. They probably figured sidewalk cafe was more cost effective. www.sandiego.gov/development-...

Making the experience of getting to the park objectively worse for hundreds of thousands of San Diegans would actually make additional bus lanes less palatable to them on future ballot measures. Transit advocates will continue to vote for sloppy measures that mention rail expansion or bus lanes.
