I was a military dependent (USAF brat) from age 1.5 through 18, I never lived on a base though so I never ate at a chow hall until I was an adult and worked for a government contractor. I did eat at NCO and officer’s clubs at times. The first time I tasted steak was at a NCO club.

Did you have mid-rats! (Midnight rations) That was great after a night at the club!

I worked for a contract company at a navy base. Everyone who started working there gained an average of 10 pounds. The chow hall had great food! After hours the chef made late night meals to our specifications; omelettes or whatever our stomachs desired!

I grew up in the military & don’t know about every base but later I worked for a contract company on a US Navy base. Had access to the chow hall 3 meals a day+late night-great food-good selection. Sunday nights were especially yummy, prime rib or roast was always on the menu cooked perfectly. 😋

Same here-maybe 10 yrs ago. My husband and I always had a little happy hour before dinner. It got to where I didn’t feel like cooking or going out to eat after drinking. So I decided either eating or drinking had to go. I’m a boomer so I’ve had my fair share of partying. Don’t miss it.
