Sarah, how's the writing going?
Wellll I started taking pictures of my cat as if she was getting married, so, yeah. I mean, great.
I need to post about a bunch of albums, and catch up so many people in my life. But I'm too sleepy for putting words together today. I suspect that'll be tomorrow, at the pub 👍
Funny, it's John Cale's version in the film, Rufus Wainwright's on the soundtrack's CD release. You'd think a sensible licence would cover both 🤔
One for @connoralsodraws.bsky.social, if ever I posted one.
No-one buy the ceramic rolling pin I'm looking at on Etsy between now and payday please.
More fun with Italy's copyright laws in the 60's / 70's. It's 1969's... "Sundance Cassidy and Butch the Kid"
(Don't confuse them with those other guys!)
I think people intuitively understand this in terms of like, a band that isn't very good getting all sulky and mad at the audience after their mediocre set and then posting online about how the scene sucks instead of practicing
"The Expendables 4...what went wrong?"
well they made a 4th expendables movie for starters.
That was definitely a thing back then. Nigel Farage gets brought up for smoking being a part of his public image, for instance.
Oh sure, “you’re not supposed to drink WD40”. Then why does it come with a straw?
Fortunately they have a lot of very good slightly deeper cuts. I've always said I'm Always Touched By Your Presence Dear is my favourite.
Watching a retro games video yesterday, and I caught a glimpse of the ABC figures for Amstrad Computer User.
The second-best magazine for the third-biggest microcomputer was selling… 63,000 copies per month. In the UK.
Incredible to think about how publishing has changed.
Not enough good punchlines for their ratio to call a must-hear, but I appreciated they tried more than many. Second half of the album gets past boringly competent, feels like the MCs find chemistry together. Sent this one to my bro for being legit funny. (Loved rhyming 'cabinet' with 'stabbin' it'.)
This is the first song, and it's a rough first impression. Turns out the album isn't just one guy unconfidently doing a comical voice throughout. (Those are definitely out there btw, see Rukus of KryptiK). It's a D12ish group being amusing on purpose to varying degrees of success...
My husband ate pancakes for an hour on International Pancake Day so I can't wait to celebrate International Women's Day with him.
happy international women's day

I called the album psychedelic – it has a matra-ish quality to a lot of it. Not much struck me as immediately catchy, but it's emphatic and full of barbed emotions. I really liked the sound of the music too. Favourite tracks were Loose Rap and Extra Smooth. Will definitely be exploring further work.
Aaliyah's self-titled album is masterful. A lot of the r&b catchup has had me listening to architecturally constructed pop songs. This felt a lot more off-the-cuff. In structural terms, choruses would feel like they arose from an instinct rather than because the repeated part goes here.
I hate that entire groups are being prevented from existing in mainstream art because of roughly 200 shrill lunatics who can't be normal about anything.
I didn’t particularly care for the new Elvis…documentary? Concert film? Both? Neither?
White Crosses by Sycksyde was a pleasant surprise. Rough first impression, and some of their punchlines just had me wondering what they meant. But in time it does become clear that they're funny on purpose (among the excessive malevolence, no beating around the bush here). Reminded me a lot of D12.
Shit, two nouns there, and then I didn't even paste the link in. What a mess.
For me, definitely Ramones – who I regard as an interesting and necessary eventual history lesson, rather than as purveyors of good tunes...
@fireh9lly.bsky.social Listening to a bad album from 25 years ago, as usual, and the voice this dude rapper is doing is very, uh, Relapsarian.
Crash Bandicoot!
The thumbnail for our review of Max Magician and the Legend of the Rings. Phelan and I cast spells with our fingers in front of a boy with a book, an elf, some trolls, and a wizard. The text says "TOTALLY NOT LORD OF THE RINGS..."
This film about a chosen boy who uses the Force to stop a war between trolls and elves over some magic rings might seem a little similar to some other movies. Our review of Max Magician and the Legend of the Rings is now public, please share!

I would like the question answered though, because I do think our mind is made up of what we've experienced so far, for the most part. So if consciousness isn't as simple as a printer that combines phrases triggered by stimuli, once you add enough phrases, I'd like to know the consensus theories.
Missing when I had a regular karaoke, so I could do my practice finding new tracks to do new things with my voice, and get solid on a repertoire. Instead of occasionally finding one, going up, and just trying to get back into it with something I used to be more confident at.
