In Birmingham, where car owners have the right almost all of our public space, where cycling and walking are dangerous by design, and where buses sit in car traffic, this is the initiative the powers that be have come up with.
Thought this might have been a @tomflood.bsky.social satire at first.
Still struggling to believe this is real. These words, against this backdrop. Absolute perfection.
As a resident in Shabana Mahmood's constituency, I am very grateful to see this letter.
An image asking drivers to take a pledge take space, in front an image of an urban hellscape in which every bit of space is for drivers.
I mean, asking drivers to make this solemn pledge. Tell me this isn't something out of the Rovélo Record!

"Anyone who tells you that the way to fight antisemitism is to stop criticizing Israeli policy, or that the way to enable honest critique of Israel is to simply tolerate the antisemitism that attaches itself to that critique, is offering you a false and ultimately cowardly choice."
Read this.
Vancouver, where I'm from, New York, and many other cities in Canada and the US and I imagine in Europe and elsewhere too.
The tow truck would come, the problem would be removed, the city would gain revenue, and the car owner might even come to realize that there is such thing as society!
Canada will write "I'm sorry" on its cruise missles.
Better to bankrupt our cities than risk inconveniencing a car owner.
Local authorities who won't contract towing companies to remove private property blocking public space like this are making an announcement that they are happy to see this continue.
In many cities, this car would be gone within a few minutes, and its owner could then pay to get it back.
Check it out, @bhamcitycouncil.bsky.social, you're leadership is gaining international attention! Be bold, be Birmingham, etc....
Group effort!
It's true. She joined our household about six months ago from Birmingham's Kitty Cafe. It's already hard to remember her not being here. You know how it is.
Pearl, concerned
On hearing this news, our Pearl put on her concerned face. She's usually not that into dogs, but clearly an exception was in order in this case.
this is not an amount of money any individual or household should be able to have and we have to abolish both billionaires as a group and the economic system that makes them possible
Enjoy passing back through!
I also don't think I've ever seen a campus where as many people skateboard as their mode of transportation.
The clarity and consistency of this position is why it will be attacked by the entire Reform/Tory/Labour bloc.
Yeah, but when you think about it, people choosing to drive might have to spend an extra 30 seconds in their cars, which is clearly a much more serious peril.
Exactly. The problem is too few bollards!
6 years of work on an extremely moderate plan to mitigate car traffic. But some car owners from around the country didn't like that idea and said so in a "consultation," so now it'll be just more and more of this.
I guess the people in charge don't want anyone to want to move here. Who would?
Bookmarking for future teaching. Looks like an excellent companion to Naoko Shibusawa's "Lavender Scare and Empire."
#UKCarCulture
And now, everything will just get worse in this beleaguered city, and the inequalities of #UKCarCulture will just become more entrenched.
Birmingham once again the poster child for how #CarsRuinCities.
Rachel, Zack and Mothin
There's nothing the establishment is more scared of them a calm, kind, thoughtful gardener who happens to be a Muslim man in politics.
We'll stand together. Solidarity Mothin.
Anyways, you can read about Udall and the politics of cycling and U.S. global power in my forthcoming book for @columbiaup.bsky.social - The World Awheel: the United States and the First Global Bicycle Age.
Dr. Kwoba will be in Birmingham to give a talk about this important book on 16 March.
Free to attend. All welcome!
