In the latest issue of Annals of Family Medicine
@annfammed.bsky.social, I have a personal reflection titled: “To Ground Research in the Lived Experience of Patients and Caregivers, Give Us a Voice!” This 🧵provides a summary. 1/24 t.co/LURaKCrtT6

Our paper found that people with generalized joint #hypermobility have a 23% higher risk of #LongCOVID while people with extreme hypermobility have a 76% higher risk of #LongCOVID. This thread focuses on possible explanations for the higher risk. 1/20

Study *just published* yesterday on the relationship between Long Covid and hypermobility Im BMJ Public Health. New category of "extreme hypermobility" is defined. (COI : close relation to an author :) )

Thanks so much to @chromatowski.bsky.social for posting this chart and bringing my attention to this new study! (Note: the cervical fusions referred to in this chart are C1 to C2 only, not Craniocervical Fusion, which were seemingly not included.)

Interesting! Jeff and I looked at the study today and indeed the only cervical fusions included in the study are c1-c2, not craniocervical fusions, c0-C2. (These seem like they are easier to recover from?)

It took the Nazis one month, three weeks, two days, eight hours, and 40 minutes to dismantle a constitutional republic.

When the fire starts to burn, every good person better be ready to man a post with a bucket of water if you want to stop it from raging out of control.

A fellow journalist who I don't know wrote to me today, saying, "I just want to say how much I admire your work. Through the Shadowlands is such a beautifully written and deeply compelling book. It's stuck with me ever since I first read it." It meant so much to hear.

Oh, I'm so so sorry. My mother also died of hospital-aquired Covid on October 3. She was in for gallbladder issues. No healthcare workers were wearing masks.
