This was more her show. And the ensemble worked together so well. And man, David Comer might be my favorite theatre director (he floored me with my favorite production of at least the past decade, off-broadway’s “A Case for the Existence of God”)
It’s a play that really speaks to this particular time. Seeing it 20 years ago didn’t hit as hard or have as much meaning as now. (Also, I was younger and I just felt like Michael Shannon was chewing up the scenery, in a good way but it was *his* show.)
I saw Tracy Letts’s Bug off-Broadway when Michael Shannon was in it. And it’s so rare to see a Broadway revival version one-up its original predecessor, but tonight’s production of Bug on Broadway with Carrie Coons did just that.
