Funny also to see how my 3D experience is influencing my new usage of After Effects (left it out for a few years while I was learning #3D and #gamedev) : multiple viewports, arrays, modifiers, normals...
But man, manipulating the pixels directly is so freeing. No meshes, shaders, rendering order...

Testing the production pipeline between #AfterEffects and #AffinityDesigner. I'm used to draw with both so for now I think #Affinity will be used for main vector shapes then port them to #AE to continue drawing for proper control of #Animation and #PostProduction.

... experienced, or that the scope is too large, or that my workflow needs refining.
Now the contrast is obvious : When I play music, draw illustrations, it feels natural, fun, I make actual progress and it nurtures me.
When I do gamedev, it feels like a struggle that just keeps piling up.

I decided to walk away from #gamedev for my musical project. Like many times before, as soon as I reach the dev part of the project it just feels like endless debugging and compensating for the lack of tools that I'm used to have in graphic and motion design. I just don't enjoy it.

Spent 2 days making my own custom importer for TexturePacker sprites since their addon only imports AtlasTextures with no 2D PBR support.
Now it imports all spritesheets and creates Sprite2D PackedScenes already populated with PBR maps.

I'm not too happy about all the switching and hesitating but it's part of a bigger train of thoughts about how I want to express myself and publish my art. The game is only a part of those things and I really want to find the right way to make art, enjoy it and find time for it.

- I don't need precise tempo syncing by using a beatmap
- My artstyle is 2D that relies transparency and masks
- I want this game to also be on the web
- I want to focus on illustration and not animation

Great ! Thanks a lot ! It's nice to see 2D Unreal get a bit more visibility. I started doing 2D with it back in 2020 and it was already pretty fun ! I even did some experiments with Control Rig and cutout 2D characters and everything was working great.

Finished re-reading - Hell's Paradise - by Yuji Kaku. What a blast ! God-tier story and art, I love how he weaved the themes of strength and weakness in the plot and character interactions, just lovely. Both subtle and epic ! And the character designs ๐คโจ

Goodness #lookdev is rough. A brawl with shaders, mobile performance, sprite masking, fake lighting, scene depth in forward rendering, texture quality and coding radial rotations.
Painful to compare the clean 2D look and the resulting game visual. I need tolerance.

Been in limbo between #2D and #3D workflows these past days. Doing vector art in #Blender is powerful but I get lost in the technicalities and don't get inspired. 2D is my cozy place, so I'll take it straight to #UnrealEngine and bring in 3D techniques progressively.

This pipeline is taxing if I need to redo stuff so maybe a blend of curve drawing + modeling + procedural texturing would be a good fit. Also I'm not too happy with how geometry nodes works compared to #UnrealEngine, I think I need to jump into lookdev sooner than I thought.
