Green and white logo with text on the side reading Rainier Valley Safe Streets
Green and white shield shaped logo with Mount Rainier & Lake Washington sticking out from the top as squares depicting road sign style abstractions of a light rail train, person biking, person using a wheelchair, and parent pedestrian holding a kid’s hand
Seattle Streets Alliance logo & title in green and white with a circle logo depicting silhouettes of people walking across a crosswalk, person riding a bicycle, and person using a wheelchair in front of houses, apartments, and trees
It’s official! We have changed our name to Rainier Valley Safe Streets as part of the rebranding of now Seattle Streets Alliance @sngreenways.bsky.social
This helps with past confusion (we don’t manage the city’s greenways program)
With a new name, our advocacy for safer streets for all continues

It’s clear that the city does not value the Bicycle Weekends program, and this is a slap in the face to everyone trying to enjoy one of Southeast Seattle’s best parks through walking, biking, and rolling. We’re trying to get to the bottom of this, but it stinks really bad

Car with major front end damage from a collision at MLK Blvd and S Alaska St in Seattle. A police vehicle with lights flashing off to the side.
What I woke up to this morning. @cmsaranelson.bsky.social @councilmember-amr.bsky.social @cmmarksolomon.bsky.social how many collisions, injuries, and deaths are necessary before Seattle gets serious about excessive speed on MLK? We need urgent action to slow drivers.

I was going to post about how amazing it was that I can now ride from Beacon Hill to South Park to Georgetown to downtown almost entirely in PBLs. But instead I’ll post this picture of a guy who smashed into the bike lane seconds after I rolled through:

Friday morning we lost a neighbor & 2 people were injured, all due to traffic violence & probably speeding.
MLK Way here is signed 25 mph speed limit, so a driver-pedestrian crash shouldn’t be so deadly, & a secondary driver-driver crash shouldn’t happen.
Speed kills.

This is the consequence of not following through on traffic safety. We hope that Bradley recovers fully and that the driver comes forward and takes responsibility for their actions.

This morning community members with @rvgreenways.bsky.social hosted a vigil surrounding a coffin filled with flowers for the people who are killed or injured every 2.5 days on Rainier Ave S on average.
Meanwhile the City Council Transportation Committee got a presentation on "what is a pothole?"

Seattle community calls for urgent action on 'chaotic' stretch of road
Safety advocates urge the City of Seattle to implement traffic-calming measures on Rainier Avenue South.
More good coverage of the dangerous streets in South Seattle on King5 tonight. Great work @sngreenways.bsky.social @rvgreenways.bsky.social bringing attention to this dangerous intersection in a busy neighborhood.

Throwing away years of outreach and expert advice from SDOT is a huge mistake for creating a safe park environment on Lake Washington Blvd. We’re mad, and we’re going to continue to fight for a safer Lake Washington Blvd

This change in plans without transparency or explanation is a slap in the face to neighbors who advocated for safety improvements over 5+ years. We will get to the bottom of this.
In the meantime, please contact our city reps & tell them we need safer Lake WA Blvd:

Sickening and heartbreaking. My thoughts are with this person and their friends, family, and communities.
SE Seattle deserves safe streets. MLK Way is one of the top five most dangerous streets in the city, and must be made safer.
