Decoding mRNA: How AI & Vaccines Cure Cancer | Liana Lareau | Ignite Talk YouTube video by Ignite Talks - Smart Ideas From Around the World

This is my love letter to mRNA: an Ignite talk I gave as a fundraiser for the Lawrence Hall of Science. Custom mRNA cancer vaccines could be a game changer, but anti-science policies make their future so uncertain. www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUlu...

I’m thrilled to share that my PhD work has been just published in Cell. After a long and bumpy ride, we uncovered the core function of nuclear speckles -splicing of GC-levelled exons- and traced the evolution of this gene architecture and condensates themselves to amniotes.

Why m⁶A? An RNA surveillance model Dierks and Schwartz discuss the m6A surveillance model, proposing that m6A flags “undesirable” intron-less RNAs (e.g., transposons) for decay. This provides a mechanism to distinguish “legitimate” spliced mRNAs and potentially suppress harmful RNA.

🚀 Just published: New1 shields mRNAs from no-go decay — by preventing ribosome crashes at specific codons.
What’s new?
New1 (eEF3 homolog) stops ribosomes from stalling at C-terminal AAA/AGG/CGU codons. No New1 = collisions + Hel2 recruitment + Cue2-mediated no-go decay.

Regulation of RNA-binding proteins by small biomolecules Nature Reviews Molecular Cell Biology, Published online: 06 November 2025; doi:10.1038/s41580-025-00914-4RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) are essential for gene regulation. Recent data reveal that small biomolecules (SBMs) such as sugars, nucleotides, metabolites and drugs bind to RBPs and regulate their function. This Review discusses the landscape of SBM-binding RBPs, the molecular basis of their interactions and their relevance to human diseases.
