There's a lot of chatter around the proposal being inserted into a budget bill that would put a moratorium on any AI legislation being passed by the states for the next 10 years. I thought I'd say a bit about why this is an absolutely disastrous move.

The way to make sense of it is that the operation of the Democratic Party, as a coalition of antagonistic elements, both structurally and rhetorically works to make political causality harder to understand and obscures proper distribution of credit and blameβmore or less deliberately
Ofc most people don't understand what the money is actually being used on (it's so opaque, how can you), but there is clearly so much waste and graft because of (defense) contracting, so make that the focus of populist rhetoric and show how it's miles beyond the waste of something like the EPA
I think it's actually fairly good strategy to co-opt the energy for DOGE (whether it's real or not, it's a populist rallying point) and to show what such a dept could actually target to address some of the roots of the problem. It's time for dems to concede that most ppl hate what gov uses money for
Hasanβs channel is the closest thing I can think of, but that doesnβt have the ear of anyone with the power to actually roll out a policy or bring an idea/issue up on a debate stage. Itβs easy to see how this lack of pathways for influence/engagement would translate to less political enthusiasm
The divide between the liberal establishment/media and the widespread public responses to the UHC assassination is a perfect example of how the left has no meaningful participatory outlet like this. Rather than catching onto the clear desire for change/justice, lib media just scolds the revelers
