the main thing I've noticed is that nodes-that-affect-future-nodes (like this and PONR) is that they can result in funky behaviour on less simple paths

for instance Avida's path has PONR and non-PONR ways to end up at the same endpoints and it blocks out the escape dropdown

It'd be nice to see a window of escape that releases the lock for those paths where it's like "after some teasing they let you out and you have precisely five minutes to make yourself scarce before they get you again"

but let's face it nobody's hitting that button

Can prey still advance a paused node after the lock's in place, or is that pred-only too?

This is pretty much exactly my jam

They can put the "go back one node" struggle thing on nodes after it so prey can mash and mash and mash to try and go back and reset the timers but not actually be able to escape

I dunno if it blocks people from advancing paused nodes as well but with me being a big softy I might replace most of my ponr nodes with them, especially on the more absorby type paths that don't have any, like, "you died" implications to them

it has the "mine" behaviour without the respawn

They block escape, but not go-back-one-node once the prey enters them

which sounds like it could be extremely good for a path where someone can keep mashing the go-back node to avoid being absorbed or passed into a lower stomach without letting them actually escape

it'd help if bluesky and other platforms weren't absolutely awful with respect to "oh shit I forgot to put tags on this thing I just posted"

well, if they're behind a PONR then they'd be infinite, but if they're not then either partner can just skip whenever, so... hmm.

one thing I've not checked is whether paused nodes play nice with the max path length setting

like are they treated as infinite duration or zero duration
