Wow, your texts are so much more interesting than mine! Mine mostly read like Don Jr. could've written them.
My neighborhood lost its excellent Ethiopian restaurant and I miss it very much.
Indigenous Peoples play an outsize role in nature conservation around the world, which the Global Biodiversity Framework explicitly recognized. This AIPP paper, which I was privileged to edit, shows how IPs in Asia have worked to shape national strategies under the GBF aippnet.org/engagement-i...
I just ran into a man from Inspectional Services walking up Cross Street with his tablet, issuing tickets, and I thanked him profusely for his efforts. In general, conditions seem much better than in January, which suggests #SomervilleMA did hold people to account. @mayorjakewilson.bsky.social
One thing I loved yesterday afternoon was to walk through East Somerville and see so many people out, many clearing snow but also just walking. Lots of people, very few cars.
Can the grammar still be acquired by fans?
Oh so many good books here! Incredible package and a great cause. Just minutes to go!
I knew you were a linguist. So you have a whole 2000 word vocabulary and grammar? You know lots of people have wondered what that final bit says: Eyaktept eket ontyask atakt oyansot ot. Eyantsant eps.
Curious about @neuvel.net's approach to creating a language. It seems quite well thought-out.
The Themis Files series by @neuvel.net starts out as an adventure, turns way darker in #2, and goes full-on dystopian in #3, yet it's also surprisingly moving? Very timely, too, as xenophobia and racism run wild. Highly recommended! #Booksky thethemisfiles.com
Photo of a young cat belly-up on a sunny rug. Her belly is white and the rest of her is a mess of black and brown spots. Her face is tucked partly behind a paw.
Whatever's on your schedule today, make sure at some point you get as much pleasure and joy as Phoebe in the afternoon sun.
Instead of gimmicks that provide near-term relief but will cost us later, we need actual reforms. The very nerdy experts at Synapse Energy Economics offer multiple recommendations. Urge @massgovernor.bsky.social, DPU & our legislators to read this and demand change! 'cause the utilities don't care.
I don't get my electricity from Eversource; I've got Somerville Community Choice. But we're affected, too. The same companies that supply utilities also sell to CCAs, and if retail rates are inflated, you can provide a discount and still charge way more than electricity actually costs.
Electrical utilities in Mass. don't generate their own power, but rather buy it from separate suppliers who aren't regulated by the DPU. And it turns out they're *grossly* overcharging. Learn how and what we can do about it: www.synapse-energy.com/overcharged-... #mapoli #utilities #electricity
There you go, ruining their big announcement!
It's not showing up for me. Did it already happen?
When is this?
Just purchased via Kobo! Looks fascinating.
This was an excellent video. SNAP and safety-net programs in general provide generous subsidies to employers who just don't want to pay a living wage (or provide benefits). I did ask myself how states could best stop companies from capping people's hours just to avoid obligations.
Oh and obviously I have an eastern bias, but out west, Spoke remains awesome.
The people of Worcester?
For dinner: Celeste, June Bug, and the Eaves Vietnamese noodles in Bow Market. Either way, stop in for wine or cocktails (both great) in Bow. Still miss Casa B!
That was the first thing I thought when I heard about the balloon.

That's amazing.
Hey, there's even a small monument to one of my ancestors in a random ON town. Will keep this in mind should the spiral keep spiraling... Costa Rica just elected a Bukele fan, so my birthplace, the natural choice, may become as bad as Trumpland.
Oh wow! I wonder if "my Redcoat ancestors fled the U.S. for Ontario and stayed there till at least the 1890s" would count. Not honorable, but Canadian? Of course some Confederates went north, too, right?

ICE is operating in East Somerville this morning and I'm hearing that at least one person has already been taken.
