Release Day! The Sisters of Book Row by Shelley Noble ~ My Thoughts #TheSistersOfBookRow Happy Release Day! Congratulations Shelleyon the release today ofThe Sisters of Book Row! The Sisters of Book Row by Shelley NobleHistorical Fiction, Books about Books, 384 pagesPublished March 3, 2026 by William Morrow Paperbacks A thrilling and timely historical novel of books, banning, and the women who helped save New York’s famed Book Row, from bestselling author Shelley Noble. 1915: Manhattan’s Book Row, an eclectic jumble of forty bookshops along Fourth Avenue, is the mecca for rare book buyers from around the world, and the haunt of locals looking for a bargain. It is also the target of the most vicious censor in American history—Anthony Comstock. And home to three sisters who vow to stop him. For the three Applebaum sisters, the narrow, four-storied Arcadia Rare Bookshop is the only home they’ve ever known. Olivia, the oldest, is an expert in restoring rare manuscripts. Daphne, the outgoing middle sister, oversees the retail shop and is a favorite with their customers. Celia, the youngest, is left to dust and catalogue, but often sneaks out to do heaven knows what. Little do her sisters know, Celia has joined a group of young people who secretly print and distribute articles on women’s health by hiding them within the pages of ordinary cookbooks, household hints, and sewing patterns, despite the personal risk. Meanwhile, the Comstock Laws threaten anybody who owns or circulates “obscene, lewd, or lascivious” publications. Even classic literature or fine art could send a person to jail. In the face of such oppression, Celia and the booksellers of Book Row band together. But secrets and a mysterious stranger mean the fate of the famed Book Row is anything but secure.      My thoughts about The Sisters of Book Row ~~ (I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.) First lines—"A breeze dances among the leaves of the olive trees that cast their shade over the walled courtyard." I went into this story not knowing anything about it or about the events that took place during this specific time period. The cover that was filled with books is what drew me in.  Three sisters, each different in her own way, are left to run their family-owned bookstore after their father passes away. Times are tough and each sister has her own agenda and idea of the life she wants to live. I was struck by how different each sister was from the others and how they all wanted unique things out of life. As troubling events were thrown at them, they learned about what and who were important and how they could all manage to be happy.  I really enjoyed The Sisters of Book Row and learned a lot about Anthony Comstock, the Comstock Laws, and the threat all of that was to small booksellers and the rights of the common people. The writing was superb which made for a very enthralling story. Highly recommend it! I received a ARC of The Sisters of Book Row and this is my honest opinion. ************************** About the author Shelley Noble is a multi published fiction author whose books have been translated into seven languages. Release Day! Lola Gillette and the Summer of Second Chances by Kimberly Behre Kenna ~ My Thoughts and an Interview #LolaGillette Happy Release Day!  Congratulation Kimberlyon the release today ofLola Gillette and the Summer of Second Chances! Lola Gillette and the Summer of Second Chances by Kimberly Behre KennaMiddle Grade, 170 pagesPublished March 3 by Willow River Press A heartwarming and magical middle-grade adventure about grief, guilt, and the power of connection. Thirteen-year-old Lola is determined to honor her perfect twin sister, who died in an accident Lola can’t forgive herself for. To make things right, she’s on a mission to complete their Perfect Pairs Collection—but one mistake lands her in serious trouble. Now, instead of facing reform school, Lola must spend August with her eccentric, agoraphobic Uncle Milo in his crumbling mansion on the Connecticut River. What begins as punishment quickly turns into a summer full of strange discoveries: a Zen garden gone wrong, a holographic projector spitting ghostly messages from her late aunt, a mysterious houseboat, and even a wandering wolf. As Lola races to complete her lucky baker’s dozen of perfect pairs, she starts to realize that magic isn’t about collections or luck—it’s about healing, forgiveness, and finding where she truly belongs. Perfect for fans of Kate DiCamillo, Lynda Mullaly Hunt, and Anne Ursu, this touching, funny, and imaginative story explores family, loss, and the courage it takes to let go. My thoughts about Lola Gillette and the Summer of Second Chances ~~ (I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.) First lines—"My name is Lola. I am a thief." This story grabbed me from the very first lines. Since I had already read one of this author's stories, I knew this tale was going to be another exciting adventure.  Lola feels like an outcast in her own family. When she is sent away to spend a month with a quirky uncle as her punishment for stealing, she discovers a world full of caring people who just want to help. She takes on the quest of trying to make her uncle happy and accepting of his life as it is now, after the death of his wife. With a full community behind her, it just may happen. Lola Gillette and the Summer of Second Chances was a wonderful story of second chances, just like the title says, but also a story of the strength and determination of others when they all pull together for a common cause. This was a delight to read and would be enjoyed by all middle graders.  I received a copy of Lola Gillette and the Summer of Second Chances from BooksForward and this is my honest opinion. *************************** An Interview withKimberly Behre Kenna How does your teaching background influence your writing?  I’ve spent most of my adult life working with kids in one way or another. My teaching years were filled with my own learning about the power of play, asking big questions, and finding connections, all of which infuse my writing. I loved my students’ sense of humor, their bravery, and I was curious about their shifting social dynamics! These firsthand insights help me craft characters and conflicts that resonate and reflect both the chaos and wonder of growing up. I write books that I would have used in my classroom to foster deep discussions and promote a sense of community. What was your inspiration for “Lola Gillette,” the third book in your Brave Girls collection? My two main inspirations were a visit to Gillette Castle State Park here in CT and growing up with twin younger sisters. My first visit to the park was during the pandemic, and as we hiked the trails with the castle in the background, I was enthralled by the beauty of the woods above the CT River and was intrigued by the castle and the life of its former owner, William Gillette. A perfect setting for a mysterious adventure! I’d always been curious about my twin sisters’ energetic connection as well as their stark differences, and I wondered how they’d survive if they were ever separated. As with my previous two books, I let “what-if” questions lead the way into Lola’s story. What strengths do the characters in this book have? What does being quirky mean to you?  In my opinion, being quirky is a strength. Having unusual interests, thinking differently, and connecting things that don’t usually go together leads to exceptional creativity in problem solving, the arts, and life in general. Some consider reclusive Uncle Milo odd because of his huge clan of cats, his interests in gardens and floral design, and his desire to sculpt wooden door locks that are puzzles to solve. Based on real-life actor and inventor William Gillette, Milo’s quirks are gifts for all. Lola is impulsive but insightful, and her self-awareness ultimately allows her to rely on her flawed but beautiful self as opposed to magic. My characters are resilient and open to learning beyond what they believe is true…once they get out of their own way! Why do we need middle-grade novels that highlight difficult topics, and how do we write such books in an age-appropriate way? How can books provide validation and healing for struggling kids? Middle-grade novels that address difficult topics help young readers see their own struggles reflected and named, offering both validation and hope. As an author, it’s my responsibility to balance authenticity with sensitivity and contain it all within an engaging story infused with humor and hope. Critique partners and sensitivity readers help me do this appropriately, in a way that draws kids in without overwhelming them. If readers share a character’s challenges, it reassures them they’re not alone. For those unfamiliar with those challenges, the characters provide insights into different ways of living that inspire empathy in readers.  How can teachers, parents and social workers/therapists use fiction books as a way to discuss difficult topics, and why should they? Fiction offers a safe, indirect way for kids to explore hard truths without feeling personally exposed. Discussing difficult topics via book groups or a family read helps children name emotions, ask questions, and build language for things they may not yet understand. It also supports connection and trust, showing that no feeling or experience is too big for conversation. These kinds of stories reveal various possible roadmaps for dealing with challenges, showing young readers that transformation and healing are possible.  How are writing and reading transformative and empowering for all ages, but especially important for kids?  Writing and reading allow people of all ages to make sense of their experiences, imagine possibilities, and find their voice, and for kids, this power is magnified. Writing gives them agency, a way to reshape their world via thoughtful questions and imagination. Just think, we can write about our past experiences and change those stories’ endings in whatever way we want! Sharing writing with others takes bravery, resulting in a deeper understanding of others and ourselves. Regardless of our differences, reading and writing are ways to recognize our similarities and the role each of us plays in this one gigantic web of life. What’s next for you? Do you have plans to continue the Brave Girls collection? I’m working on final revisions of a mystical YA novel that features a brave girl and boy trying to untangle mysteries in an unpredictable forest. A fourth MG is in the works, but I’m only on the first draft. That protagonist is still trying to teach me a few things, and she definitely has a lot to say! *************************** About the author After years as an adolescent and family counselor, and then as a fifth grade teacher of ecology and language arts, Kimberly returned to school for her MA in creative writing from Wilkes University.  Her middle-grade novel, Artemis Sparke and the Sound Seekers Brigade (Regal House/Fitzroy) was a finalist and received Honorable Mention in the 2019 Tassy Walden New Voices in Children’s Literature Competition. Jett Jamison and the Secret Storm (Black Rose) is the second book in her Brave Girls Collection. A third in the collection, as yet unpublished, won second place in The Institute of Children’s Literature 2022 MG Mystery Contest.  Her poems and stories have been published in American Writers Review, Mused, Plumtree Tavern, and Rubbertop Review. Her full-length play, Ana’s Hummingbird, was given a staged reading at The Dramatists Guild in NYC. She’s a member of SCBWI and PEN America, and now devotes herself to writing full time. Release Day! Leave It Up To Love by Kristy Woodson Harvey ~ My Thoughts #LeaveItUpToLove @kristywharvey Happy Release Day! Congratulations Kristyon the release today ofLeave It Up to Love! Leave It Up To Love by Kristy Woodson HarveyRomance, Short Story, 58 pagesPublished March 1, 2026 by Amazon Original Stories From New York Times bestselling author Kristy Woodson Harvey comes a funny, feel-good tale—a seaside romp about chasing dreams, losing illusions, and writing your own story. Ready for her big break after publishing her first novel, Lila Everwood has two fresh book ideas and dreams of quitting her barista job. She’s hopeful about her future—until her writing catches her literary idol’s attention in all the wrong ways. Elizabeth Lancaster, the queen of regency romance, hasn’t written a word in three years. Her publisher’s solution? A ghostwriter. Specifically, her favorite coffee server. It’s either brilliance or madness—and her literary agent son Grady thinks it’s definitely the latter. As the ideas begin to fly, so do the sparks—between Lila and Grady. And, as Lila’s and Elizabeth’s worlds collide, the two writers must lean on each other, learning something vital in the In life, love, and publishing, sometimes you have to write your own happy ending.      My thoughts about Leave It Up To Love ~~ (I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.) First lines—"My favorite part about being an author was days like today, when I was walking down a Sea Oat Shores, North Carolina, street to meet with my editor." I love everything that Kristy Woodson Harvey writes and Leave it Up to Love did not disappoint.  This short story was just what I needed to take a break for my typical reading material. It was light and fun, everything a rom-com should be. The idea of a ghostwriter for an established author is probably more common than I am aware of but this was an interesting look at what that might entail. The characters were real and entertaining.  I read the e-book as well as listened to the audio-book. The narrators did an amazing job and had the characters come to life for me. Highly recommend this fun short story from one of my favorite, must-read authors! I received an audio ARC of Leave It Up To Love and this is my honest opinion. ************************** About the author Kristy Woodson Harvey is the New York Times, USA Today and Publisher’s Weekly bestselling author of eleven novels including A Happier Life, The Summer of Songbirds, and The Peachtree Bluff Series. Amanda was a gambling virgin, so new she still had her price tags. She’d never set foot in a casino or tried a slot machine. She’d never even played cards with friends. Seeing as she had no friends. She shook her head, brushing that thought away. I do have friends. A whole bunch of them—because four counted as a bunch, right? She donned her strappy gown and refreshed her makeup. Then she grabbed her Chanel purse with her ID, cash, and the cocktail voucher the concierge had given her and headed to the famed Deauville Casino that adjoined her hotel. Ten minutes into the game, Amanda began to suspect that her two-hour crash course on the train might have been insufficient. But it didn’t matter because her beginner’s luck should kick in any moment now. She surveyed the players at her table to divert her mind from worrying. What a motley crew! Across from her sat an elderly Spanish couple. They wore matching T-shirts and smiled simultaneously, flashing their dentures. Next to them, two forty-something British women spoke to each other in an incomprehensible English dialect. A middle-aged Frenchman with greasy hair and darting eyes sat beside them. Amanda’s neighbor to theleft was a surgically enhanced bimbo of unknown provenance doused with a nauseating perfume and clad in a dress that was three sizes too small. But the most remarkable person at the table was Amanda’s neighbor to the right, whom she’d nicknamed Obsidian Eyes. In his late twenties, tall, swarthy, well built, and well dressed, the man was easy on the eyes. He wore a faux casual linen suit and played with the easy confidence of someone who knew what he was doing. His complexion and features held a touch of something exotic, faintly alien—something that kept her stealing glances at him whenever he turned his attention to his cards. Was it his wavy, jet-black hair, mesmerizing eyes, or chiseled jawline? Or maybe his exquisite eyebrows that made her think of a raven’s wings? Whatever that je ne sais quoi was, it made him look more than ordinary. And hot. The man was a blazing wildfire on legs. As if his looks weren’t enough, Obsidian Eyes played exceptionally well. Forty minutes into the game, his stacks of colorful chips had doubled while everyone else’s—including Amanda’s—had melted away. That thought snapped her back into reality. Panicked, Amanda raised her eyes to the high ceiling of the casino. Please, I can’t lose. She was gambling with her meager savings—half of it, to be exact. If the Supreme Being above intended to activate her beginner’s luck, now was the time. “Newbie?” Obsidian Eyes asked, his gaze never shifting from the deck in the dealer’s hands. He spoke French like a native. A slight Midi accent, maybe? A bit like Jeanne’s, but less pronounced. Amanda looked around, unsure whom he was talking to. Obsidian Eyes finally lifted his gaze from the cards and gave her a panty-dropping smile. She arched an eyebrow. “Does it show?” “Mhmm,” Obsidian Eyes said. Ooh, that smile again! The dealer held up a card for her, and she started reaching for it when she noticed Obsidian Eyes give a quick shake of his head. She pulled back. And won the hand. “Thank you,” she mouthed to her unexpected mentor. He gave her a small nod. She followed his discreet instructions for two more hands and won both. The evening was beginning to look up. The dealer bowed and ceded his place to a good-looking young woman with sleek auburn hair smoothed back into the world’s tightest bun. She greeted the players and began to shuffle the cards. Obsidian Eyes turned to Amanda. “Why blackjack? Beginners usually prefer the slots or roulette.” “I don’t know . . .Too passive for me, I guess.” He nodded. “I avoid them, too.” “So you know what I mean.” “Yes. But that’s not my only reason.” She cocked her head. “No?” “The slots are twice as costly to players than the table games, and with roulette, too much depends on chance.” Amanda smirked. “Isn’t that the case with all the games?” “Not blackjack, if played right.” “Let me guess—you play it right.” He glanced at the dealer, who was engrossed in shuffling cards. “I know a trick or two.” One of the Brits stage-whispered to the other, “I hope he’ll show me some of his tricks tonight.” She paused before adding even louder, “In my room.” Both women burst out laughing. Obsidian Eyes shifted uncomfortably and looked down at his hands, pretending he hadn’t heard the saucy remark. The man with greasy hair whispered something to the plastic bimbo. She didn’t acknowledge him. The woman was too busy multitasking. With her chest heaving, she stared at Obsidian Eyes and stroked her neck. Every five seconds shelicked her lips and then pouted. But the black-eyed hunk was oblivious to her onslaught. He turned to Amanda again. “I’m taking a break to stretch my legs.” “Er . . . OK.” He lowered his voice to a whisper. “I have a bad feeling about this dealer.” “Oh.” She pushed her chips closer together like he had done and stood. “I’ll do the same, then.” “What brings you to Deauville Casino tonight?” he asked as they strolled between the tables and observed the goings-on. After a second’s hesitation, she said, “I’m writing a book about gamblers.” “Participant observation, huh?” Her eyebrows rose. “What do you know about participant observation?” “Yeah, well, I need something to help me sleep when I get to my room at three in the morning.” He shrugged. “Reading a few pages of Tristes Tropiques works better than any sleeping pill I’ve tried.” She giggled. “I’m passionate about cultural anthropology, but I could never finish that book.” “I like psychology books better,” he said. “They’re fun to read, and the info in them is useful in my trade.” “Oh?” He nodded. “Especially books like Cialdini’s Influence and the ones on how to read body language.” “I see.” “Hey, how about a glass of champagne on the terrace after I’ve won my target amount?” He gave her an innocent smile. A little too innocent. “I have a cocktail voucher,” she blurted before she could stop herself. Did I just accept his invitation? Oh, well. What harm could a drink do? His face contorted in exaggerated disgust. “Trust me, you don’t want their free cocktail unless you’re a gustative masochist.” She put her hands on her hips. “I was given a free voucher, and I intend to use it.” “OK, OK. But don’t say I didn’t warn you.” She tilted her head to the side. “You said ‘my target amount’ earlier. Are you that good?” “In all modesty . . . yes. But my target amount is also reasonable. And I have a spending threshold, too. When I reach it before I’ve won my target amount, I always stop.” “How very rational for a gambler!” “I’m full of surprises, in case you haven’t noticed.” He gave her an appreciative look. “And I suspect that so are you, ma belle.” “When did I become your belle?” “Oh, it’s just a placeholder until you tell me your name.” Should I? she wondered. “So, what’s your name, ma belle?” “Am . . . elie. And yours?” “Kes.” “What kind of name is Kes?” “A Gypsy name.” “Like, a real Traveler Gypsy?” “As authentic as they come.” “Ah.” She raised her chin. “That explains it.” “Explains what, Amelie?” “That you make me think of Tarzan.” “Really?” “Not that you aren’t dashing in your suit,” she began, “but you look like someone who was born to ride horses bare-chested.” “Wow. You’re the bluntest belle I’ve ever met.” “And you’re the most gorgeous Gypsy I’ve ever met,” she blurted. Where did that come from? Must be the vodka. The corners of his mouth twitched. “So refreshingly honest! Why, I’m flattered.” She looked away. Honest, my foot. He wasn’t just the most handsome Gypsy she’d ever seen—he was the most spectacular man, all ethnicities included. Now, that was honest. She turned to him and cleared her throat. “Shall we go back? Target amounts and all.” “Sure.” The sleek-haired dealer was leaving when they returned to their seats. Both giggling Brits and Greasy Hair were gone. The elderly couple and the bimbo still played, but judging by their dismal faces and the measly number of chips in front of them, they weren’t doing well. Kes had been right about the dealer. “What does your gut tell you about this one?” Amanda eyed the middle-aged man who had taken over for his colleague. “He’s the best.” Her face fell. Kes grinned. “Not for the house, ma belle, for us. Move closer so I can see your cards without twisting my neck.” She moved as close to him as their chairs allowed. “Now relax and do exactly as I say.” Amanda glanced at Kes, but he had already turned his full attention to the cards. ********************** About the author Alix Nichols is a caffeine addict, a longtime fan of Mr. Darcy. Some memories protect you. Others imprison you. When August Caine receives a phone call from a Savannah attorney, she is blindsided by the news—her Aunt Helen has passed away. But how can that be, when August’s mother insisted Helen died in a car accident fifteen years ago? Determined to uncover the truth, August returns to the deep South, where the ghosts of her past—both real and imagined—await her. Plagued by a memory splintered by her father’s unsolved murder when she was a child and further tangled by psychiatric treatments for the debilitating depression she struggles with, August realizes her survival depends on unraveling the mystery surrounding her father’s death. This means returning to the one safe place she remembers from the childhood she has mostly locked away inside her Aunt Helen’s home, and the ghost tours they created together.  A chilling exploration of mental illness, mother-daughter bonds, and generational secrets, One Beautiful Year of Normal follows August as she pieces together the long-buried truths that shaped her family’s tragic past and confronts the question that has haunted her for Can the truth set her free, or will it unravel everything she thought she knew?      My thoughts about One Beautiful Year of Normal ~~ (I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.) First lines—"One of the most important practices of a ghostwriter is to make certain you are invisible. For me, this is easy: I come from a long line of world-class deceivers." Strap in and hold on to your hats. This story will take you on a wild ride! One Beautiful Year of Normal has just about every element you could want in a book. There is plenty of family drama, mother and daughter dysfunction, murder, cover-ups, kidnappings, friendship, support, and lies—lots of lies. It goes on and on. And I loved every minute of it!  The author penned such beautiful passages that the whole book was a pleasure to read. I was totally captivated by her words. And all the drama and secrets kept me turning the pages.  I highly recommend One Beautiful Year of Normal. It is a moving family drama with amazing characters and an outstanding storyline. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I received aa ARC of One Beautiful Year of Normal and this is my honest opinion. ************************** About the author Sandra K. Griffith is a doctorate-level psychologist with extensive clinical and forensic experience, the owner of a behavioral health agency, and an adjunct instructor at Marshall University. Her expertise in mental health, trauma, and the complexities of memory informs her deeply psychological and atmospheric storytelling.  When she’s not writing, she enjoys traveling, antiquing, cooking and spending time with her family, friends, and too large collection of pets. Release Day! The Book of Judges by Gary Fields #TheBookOfJudges #SparkPress Happy Release Day! Congratulations Garyon the release today ofThe Book of Judges! The Book of Judges: A Novel by Gary FieldsThriller, Political Fiction, 336 pagesPublished February 24, 2026 by SparkPress For fans of Dan Brown, a debut contemporary thriller about a young lawyer thrust into a deadly search for an ancient secret—one that has the power to steer the course of destiny. A beloved judge is murdered. His virus-infected laptop holds an ancient secret. Young lawyer Joshua Sutton, together with doctoral candidate Samantha Bollinger and tech wizard Mark Roth, are thrust into a deadly three-day quest for answers—a quest that leads them across millennia. As Mark extracts clues from the computer, Josh and Sammi are chased around Florida by the hulking murderer and others who desperately want the laptop. Josh and Sammi realize they’ve both been haunted by dreams about historical judges. In Mongol-ruled China, Imperial Rome, Byzantium, post-Renaissance Venice, Henry VIII’s England, and Charlemagne’s Frankish kingdom, judges heroically seek justice in life-and-death cases that come to define human rights. As they do, they are exposed to a startling secret. Josh, Sammi, and Mark end up in a pulse-pounding race to New York City to stop the murder of another judge, one who could potentially save humanity. ************************ Praise for The Book of Judges “Deftly plotted and lightning paced, The Book of Judges is a masterful blend of modern-day thriller and historical fiction that rivets you from page one and never lets go.”—Sheldon Siegel, New York Times bestselling author of Special Circumstances “Fields delivers a twisty thriller with a delightfully unusual plot that takes readers from 11th-century Normandy and England to 13th-century Beijing and beyond. . . . a fun and thoughtful adventure through the ages.”—Kirkus Reviews “Fields’s debut will satisfy avid fans of Dan Brown-style historical conspiracy thrillers.”—Library Journal      ************************** About the author Gary Fields was born in Brooklyn, raised in Queens, and dreamed of playing centerfield for the Yankees. But music and lyrics were always in his heart. He started writing poetry early on, enamored with meter and rhymes. As an undergraduate at SUNY Albany, he taught himself guitar and wrote a song on the first two chords he learned. Three hundred songs later, he performed professionally for a time as a solo acoustic artist around New York City. But the real world, and the limits on his musical talents, came calling. He’d hoped to become a lawyer. Again, it was the words. Putting words together convincingly, poetically, passionately, on behalf of his clients. But, as a college freshman, he’d been warned that there were too many lawyers and not enough jobs. So he earned a degree in math/computer science and went on to program and design computer systems for American Express and Ryder Trucks. Making corporations more efficient, it turned out, didn’t appeal to him. He and the love of his life, his wife, Debbie, decided to put themselves through law school at night at the University of Miami. Three grueling years later, they earned their degrees. It was there, in Coral Gables, where he first was entranced by banyan trees. Gary and Debbie settled in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where they raised their two sons, David and Dan, and their daughter, Lauren, along with Goldie, their golden retriever. Gary coached youth sports for eighteen years, coaching all three kids in basketball, his boys in Little League, and his daughter in softball. He built a law practice specializing in community associations and soon found himself pulled into civic activism in the local community. He ended up leading a six-thousand-person volunteer effort to control a major airport planned nearby. After a multi-year battle that included a media campaign, coordination with a roster of aviation experts, and arduous negotiations with county and city governments, Gary’s team succeeded in keeping the airport a small, tightly regulated facility. The experience meshed with Gary’s interest in individual rights. That, along with his passion for historical fiction and thrillers, led him back, again, to the words. The Book of Judges is Gary’s first novel. He is currently working on a sequel. Gary and Debbie now live in Southern California, close to the rest of their family. ~ Goodreads Connect with Gary Website  | Goodreads | Amazon ********************* Be sure to check the sidebar for my current giveaways!

Release Day! Shibby Magee by Carrie Kabak #ShibbyMagee Happy Release Day! Congratulations Carrieon the release today ofShibby Magee! Shibby Magee by Carrie KabakSibling Relationships, 326 pagesPublished February 20, 2026 by CORBYN ☘️ A character-driven Irish tragicomedy threaded with wit, heartbreak, and bittersweet redemption. Echoing the tones of the TV series Fleabag, Shibby Magee is wry and wickedly irreverent, while reflecting the sharp, dark dynamics of The Banshees of Inisherin. For readers of Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan, Trespasses by Louise Kennedy, and Donal Ryan’s The Queen of Dirt Island, Shibby Magee offers a warmer—but no less incisive—portrait of a woman shaped by childhood abandonment and social prejudice, following her across two defining life stages as she struggles toward dignity, love, and self-possession. When their mother, Vera Coffey, disappears after announcing she's a Traveller/Mincéir, Shibby and her twin sister, Dorah, are abandoned to a settled family already cracking at the seams. Under the iron rule of their viciously prejudiced grandmother, the two girls grow up on opposite tracks: Dorah, arrogant and bold; Shibby, bruised and quietly resilient. As Shibby stumbles into adulthood, she's drawn to men who either abuse or dump her. She finds fleeting stability in the fast-paced chaos of a restaurant kitchen—but a question gnaws at her: is her future in the rooted life of the settled or on the open road to God only knows where? With the fierce support of a chosen few—Alice Duffy, housekeeper turned surrogate mother; Moochie de Barra, an affectionate stand-in for an emotionally absent father; and Kitty Dooley, a Traveller whose loyalty never wavers—Shibby begins to uncover hard truths about identity, family, and what she desperately needs to find where she truly belongs. ************************ Praise for Shibby Magee “Carrie Kabak follows the indelible, indefatigable Shibby Magee during two crucial years in her life, one in girlhood and then another at midlife womanhood, as she struggles against prejudice, cruelty, and abandonment in her search to find her true place in an increasingly confounding world, be it in a bustling restaurant or on the road as an Irish Traveller—an extraordinary, wily community I’d never heard of before and was delighted to encounter. Warm, wise, with dashes of wit, Kabak’s novel is just magnificent.”—Caroline Leavitt, New York Times bestselling author of Pictures of You, With or Without You, and Days of Wonder “In this captivating and insightful novel, Carrie Kabak introduces the unforgettable Shibby Magee, who navigates adulthood in search of love and stability while grappling with the enduring shadows of childhood abandonment. Filled with multi-dimensional characters and evocative imagery, this is a heartfelt and poignant story that lingers long after the final page.”—Holly Kennedy, Edgar Award Nominee and Giller Prize Longlisted author of The Sideways Life of D      ************************** About the author Published by Penguin Random House, Carrie Kabak's novel, Cover the Butter, was an Independent Booksellers' Pick, won an Audiofile Magazine award, and was nominated for a Quills Award. Her essays appear in For Keeps and He Said What? (Seal Press), Exit Laughing (North Atlantic Books), Faith (Simon and Schuster), and Dumped (She Writes). Carrie's latest novels, Shibby Magee and Every Mole and Freckle, will be released in spring and fall 2026, and Mali Morgan's Summer in spring 2027.Alongside her writing, Carrie works as a book cover artist for major publishers after working for many years as a production designer at Hallmark Cards. ~ Goodreads Connect with Carrie Website | Facebook | Goodreads | Amazon ********************* Be sure to check the sidebar for my current giveaways!

Release Day! In the Shadow of Silence by Rae Dumont ~ My Thoughts #InTheShadowOfSlience @SheWritesPress Happy Release Day! Congratulations Raeon the release today ofIn the Shadow of Silence! In the Shadow of Silence: A Novel by Rae DumontDeath, Grief & Bereavement Fiction, 264 pagesPublished February 17, 2026 by She Writes Press After a lonely childhood, this novel follows love and joy—until the descent untreated depression ends with unbearable loss, forcing a family to deal with the shocking and immediate aftermath of suicide. Eva’s lonely childhood has given her an intuitive connection with kids and teenagers. She is a gifted child psychiatrist. Single, she dreams of having her own children, and she yearns for love. The future seems bright when she meets Lyman; They build a family. They share adventures. They meet life’s challenges as team. They navigate a bout of Lyman’s depression; treatment works. They share rich, fulfilling years while their careers develop, and their children grow up. When their sons enter adulthood and their daughter is a teenager, they plan an entire summer as a family. But Lyman abruptly stops both therapy and medication. He spirals into a dark and irritable isolation that none of them can penetrate. After his brutal suicide, Eva is left to cope and to guide her children through the trauma, as they each rebuild their lives. EDITOR'S PICK: BookLife and Publishers' Weekly      My thoughts about In the Shadow of Silence ~~ (I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.) First lines—"Old photographs with curled edges are scattered on the red kilim rug. Barefoot on her knees, in faded denim overalls, Eva sorts them into piles." Depression hits so many people and so many families. This story, In the Shadow of Silence, is one family's journey through the trials and tribulations of living with depression. This is something that affects everyone in a family going through it.  The author did an amazing job of creating caring, loving family members who lived and survived depression and the aftermath of their loved one's suicide. The subject was handled in a sensitive and responsible way while also showing how something like this touches everyone.  This story was quite personal to me as some of my loved ones have in the past, and some are currently struggling with depression so this one hits close to home. It was sometimes hard to read but also reassuring to see how others are managing their lives to get through it. I received aa ARC of In the Shadow of Silence and this is my honest opinion. ************************** About the author Raymonde Dumont, MD, LMFT, is both a pediatrician and a family therapist. She practiced and taught for several years at Harvard Medical School, and at the Joslin Diabetes Center. She saw the impact of one person's illness through their entire family, and showed that mental health affects medical outcomes. In private practice, as a family therapist, she helps families collaborate during difficulties, rather than becoming divided. She is also a mother, a widow, and a friend to many. She now turns her years of experience into words that speak of resilience, and of the flawed road that leads us to becoming good enough. Depression and suicide are on the rise, and the impact of tragedy reaches far beyond those immediately affected. They often create a broad circle of confusion, anger and guilt. She hopes her book will make readers feel less alone. Perhaps it will bring some insight and comfort. She lives and practices in Montclair, New Jersey, within reach of New York City. Her short stories have been published in Persimmon Tree and in The Hemlock Journal. Two young women living in a crumbling, once-grand Shanghai mansion face danger as secrets of their pasts come to light, even as the mansion’s own secret threatens the present. Shanghai, 1911. Lisan Liu is elated when she is hired as secretary to wealthy American Caroline Stanton, the new mistress of Lennox Manor on the outskirts of Shanghai’s International Settlement. However, the Manor has a dark past due to a previous owner’s suicide, and soon Lisan’s childhood nightmares resurface with more intensity and meld with haunted visions of a woman in red. All the while, strange incidents accelerate, driving Lisan to doubt her sanity as Lennox Manor seems unwilling to release her until she fulfills demands from beyond the grave. My thoughts about The Fourth Princess~~ (I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.) First lines—"For sale or lease: Lennox Manor A five-acre country estate just outside Shanghai, minutes from the junction of Brenan and Jessfield Road." I love reading stories set in China, especially stories about their past history. The culture and their customs have always fascinated me. I had already read another book by Janie Chang and enjoyed it so I was excited to have a chance to read The Fourth Princess.  I was immediately drawn into the worlds of Lisan Liu and Caroline Stanton. They each have their own hardships to deal with, as well as deep, dark secrets from their past. The unraveling of all of that made for an intriguing and captivating storylines. I couldn't stop reading! I loved everything about The Fourth Princess and highly recommend it for historical fiction lovers and readers who enjoy stories about Chinese culture. This is a good one! I received an ARC of The Fourth Princess and this is my honest opinion. ******************** About the author Janie Chang is a bestselling author of historical fiction. Release Day! Keeper of Lost Children by Sadeqa Johnson ~ My Thoughts #KeeperOfLostChildren Happy Release Day! Congratulations Sadeqaon the release today ofKeeper of Lost Children! Keeper of Lost Children by Sadeqa JohnsonHistorical Fiction, World War II, 464 pagesPublished February 10, 2026 by 37 Ink In this new novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The House of Eve, one American woman’s vision in post WWII Germany will tie together three people in an unexpected way. Lost in the streets and smoldering rubble of Occupied Germany, Ethel Gathers, the proud wife of an American soldier spots a gaggle of mixed-race children following a nun. Desperate to conceive her own family, she feels compelled to follow them to learn their story. Ozzie Philips volunteers for the army in 1948, eager to break barriers for Black soldiers. Despite his best efforts, he finds the racism he encountered at home in Philadelphia has followed him overseas. He finds solace in the arms of Jelka, a German woman struggling with the lack of resources and even joy in her destroyed country. In 1965, Sophia Clark discovers she’s been given an opportunity to integrate a prestigious boarding school in Maryland and leave behind her spiteful parents and the grueling demands. In a chance meeting with a fellow classmate, she discovers a secret that upends her world. Toggling between the lives of these three individuals, Keeper of Lost Children explores how one woman’s vision will change the course of countless lives, and demonstrates that love in its myriad of forms—familial, parental, and forbidden, even love of self—can be transcendent. My thoughts about Keeper of Lost Children~~ (I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.) First lines—"A hand pounded against the front door. Started from her morning prayers, Sister Proba clutched the cross hanging around her neck, hoping it was just the wind." Keeper of Lost Children is an amazing story featuring three characters who, unbeknownst to all of them, are connected in the most unexpected way. As the reader learns about each of them in turn, we learn about the hardships they all endured as well as the joys that were a part of their lives. It was beautiful to watch how one's actions had such an impact on the lives of the others.  The writing of Sadeqa Johnson is extraordinary and it made me feel like I was personally involved in the lives of these three people. Her words just flew off of the page and into my imagination.  I love historical fiction because of the things I learn about a time or event in the past that I knew little or nothing about. I wasn't aware of the mixed-race children that were born during the war. This story opened up that world to me and made me want to learn more about it on my own. This story gives us a little bit different spin on the war, one that is not talked about often. It shows how the unselfish actions of one person can greatly influence the lives of others. I highly recommend Keeper of Lost Children for all readers of historical fiction.  I received an ARC of Keeper of Lost Children and this is my honest opinion. ******************** About the author Sadeqa Johnson is the New York Times best-selling author of five novels. Her accolades include being the 2022 Hurston/Wright Foundation Legacy finalist, a BCALA Literary Honoree, and the Library of Virginia’s Literary People’s Choice Award winner. Book Blitz! Until the Truth Comes Out by Melanie Summers ~ Excerpt and #Giveaway #UntilTheTruthComesOut @XpressoTours Until the Truth Comes Out: A Novel by Melanie Summers Publication date: February 5th 2026 Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance A rockstar at the height of his fame.A wife on the edge.A secret that can’t stay hidden. And a single night that will change everything. In the spring of 1997, Zane McCreight and his wife, Sienna, appear to have it all—sold-out stadiums, magazine covers, and the perfect family. But behind the image, their marriage is fracturing, and a scandal is quietly spiraling out of control. As Zane’s band prepares for a massive tribute concert in the desert—under the eerie glow of the Hale-Bopp comet—tensions rise. Lies are told. Loyalties are tested. And two women find themselves trapped between ambition, betrayal, and the impossible weight of motherhood. Then, on the night of the show—while the world is watching the stage—the youngest two McCreight children vanish. Emotionally complex and deeply character-driven, Until the Truth Comes Out is a gripping tale of fame, marriage, the devastating cost of keeping secrets—and the strength of the women left to carry it all. Goodreads | Amazon ******************************* EXCERPT The Concert Under the Comet was set to take place just as Hale-Bopp reached its closest distance to Earth. There had been some concern all week that a bank of clouds might ruin the show. But thankfully, they drifted away that morning, allowing the stars—and the single streak of light that would get twenty-thousand rock fans out into the Mojave Desert on a cool spring Saturday night—to show themselves. But it wasn’t only the comet they’d come to see (all of them either wildly rich or beautiful enough that someone with money would shell out eight thousand dollars for a single ticket). It was the lineup of stars. The biggest names in the music industry were there, several of whom would take the stage together for the first and last time. It would be televised around the globe, making it bigger than the original Woodstock. More important than Live Aid ‘85. Filled with more star power than a Vanity Fair Oscar party. It was a tribute to a dead legend. The rise of a new star. The end of innocence for one lost teenager. It would be the greatest reconciliation of any celebrity couple in history. Or it would be their demise. Those last two things would remain up in the air until morning. The location was a well-guarded secret. It had to be if they were going to keep the riffraff away. The riffraff could watch via pay-per-view for a whopping $49.95 (the highest priced pay-per-view event up to that point in time). The record label executives, production team, and cable provider were certain the riffraff would be all too happy to pool their cash so they could say they’d been a part of it when they got to work the following Monday. They were right. Two hours before sundown, the audience would be brought to the location in a steady stream of air-conditioned buses, limousines, and town cars. The lights would go up. The music would play. People would cheer themselves hoarse and drink and dance and sing along (most of them off-key, depending on how many drinks they had). When they’d go back to Las Vegas, their drivers would turn on the heat for their now-chilly, exhausted passengers. The drivers would be relieved they weren’t rowdy and out of control. Instead, they were dead quiet as the shock of what happened lingered. That afternoon, five-month-old Elliott (who always went straight to sleep in the car) dozed through the long ride under the bright afternoon sun. Later, when the sky grew dark, his mother, Claudia Crawford, would point up at it and tell him about the comet, knowing he wouldn’t understand, but hoping it would somehow leave a faint imprint on his fresh, new mind. Claudia would give the performance of a lifetime that night. She was the only woman who’d been part of The Vows, but she wouldn’t play with them that evening. She would go on alone for reasons the audience wouldn’t understand until after. Claudia had planned to leave little Elliott back at the hotel in Vegas with her very reliable French nanny. Only the nanny went out dancing the night before and never came back, so Claudia was forced to bring him to the desert and leave him in the care of two teenage girls she barely knew. But everything would be fine. Elliott would be safely tucked away in a holiday trailer nearby with the girls watching over him, and Claudia would only be gone for forty-five minutes. An hour tops. But of course, that’s not what happened. Things ran late, as they do at these events, and she ended up leaving him for the better part of two hours. By the time she returned to the trailer, it would be empty. Before long, she would find herself groping her way through the impossibly dark desert, screaming his name, gripped by a panic that only fills a parent whose child has vanished. It would occur to her that she might never again hold her baby. Never press his chubby cheek to hers, never smell his neck, never hear him laugh again. She might never hear him speak his first words or watch him take his first steps. What if he never got to do those things? What if he was already dead? Her knees would give out, and she’d slide to the cold ground, and she’d be disgusted at herself for letting her emotions overwhelm her. She’d be hauled to her feet and ordered to keep going by the last person on earth she expected to help. Although her companion was only there because her child was missing too. *************************** About the author Melanie Summers also writes steamy romance as MJ Summers. Melanie made a name for herself with her debut novel, Break in Two, a contemporary romance that cracked the Top 10 Paid on Amazon in both the UK and Canada, and the top 50 Paid in the USA. Her highly acclaimed Full Hearts Series was picked up by both Piatkus Entice (a division of Hachette UK) and HarperCollins Canada. Her first three books have been translated into Czech and Slovak by EuroMedia. Since 2013, she has written and published three novellas, and eight novels (of which seven have been published). She has sold over a quarter of a million books around the globe. In her previous life (i.e. before having children), Melanie got her Bachelor of Science from the University of Alberta, then went on to work in the soul-sucking customer service industry for a large cellular network provider that shall remain nameless (unless you write her personally - then she'll dish). On her days off, she took courses and studied to become a Chartered Mediator. That designation landed her a job at the R.C.M.P. as the Alternative Dispute Resolution Coordinator for 'K' Division. Having had enough of mediating arguments between gun-toting police officers, she decided it was much safer to have children so she could continue her study of conflict in a weapon-free environment (and one which doesn't require makeup and/or nylons). Melanie resides in Edmonton with her husband, three young children, and their adorable but neurotic one-eyed dog. When she's not writing novels, Melanie loves reading (obviously), snuggling up on the couch with her family for movie night (which would not be complete without lots of popcorn and milkshakes), and long walks in the woods near her house. She also spends a lot more time thinking about doing yoga than actually doing yoga, which is why most of her photos are taken 'from above'. She also loves shutting down restaurants with her girlfriends. Well, not literally shutting them down, like calling the health inspector or something--more like just staying until they turn the lights off. She is represented by Suzanne Brandreth of The Cooke Agency International. Goodreads | Amazon *************************** EXCERPT The old rage from my liver rose, and my intestines churned like an electric whisk on the lowest speed. I was a cliché of both Chinese medicine and Ayurveda. The fact that my shame, anger, and fear culminated into Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) really made me textbook. As the spiritual experts would say: You keep holding onto old crap. I’d tried everything to let go of the past. I talked about my feelings to numerous therapists—some good, some not. I even attempted the “woo-woo” including: Inner child work. A soul retrieval from a Native American shaman (Apparently my soul couldn’t be retrieved). Good ole fashioned journaling. Cry therapy. Ayahuasca in the Amazon jungle (The result? Shitting and vomiting at the same time). Exploring my “shadow side.” Breath work while a didgeridoo played in the background (One word: painful). Shrooms. Trauma workshops. Belief coding. Vision boarding (I was desperate). Transcendental Meditation. Ketamine. Visits to psychics, mediums, astrologers, and tarot readers, who all agreed… I was pretty fucked. Then I returned to the Western approach and did a one-week stint each with Lexapro and Zoloft, which only gave me migraines. I freakin’ loved the I-can’t-even-get-anxious-if-I-wanted-to feeling of Xanax…but alas, it wasn’t enough. Nothing worked. I let out a sigh from my belly, as a multitude of yoga teachers had taught me. As I expelled the air, I felt strange…odd…not dizzy, not nauseous, but weird. I checked the monitor that displayed the airshow. Time To Destination, or TTD, was three hours to go until we landed in Teterboro, New Jersey. The words and numbers on the monitor blurred into an astigmatism. I rounded the corner into the crew rest and then plopped onto the club seat. Exhaustion crawled through my veins like slow lightning. My vision pulsed. The feeling was jetlag times infinity. I tried to stay centered and think through what was happening. I had been flying, almost nonstop to save money to buy a house. Crossing all those time zones and the constant fatigue combined with the IBD did not make for a healthy lifestyle. I’d let myself get that run down. Damn. My body felt weightless. It was like the moment before a fall, that breathless pause—only it never ended. A newfound hum in my ears grew until it swallowed my every thought. My eyes darted over my lap to the khaki fabric wall and finally to the window. The sky brightened to an angelic white, nearly blinding me. I wasn’t dizzy. I had the urge to stare straight ahead, yet I could not focus. Am I vaporizing? I stretched out my fingers. They were disappearing! I felt so airy, as if I could levitate off the seat. I grasped the armrests until… I couldn’t grasp them anymore. The outline of my body began to blur. I lost the solidity of flesh. Tiny sparks of light flickered along my arms, breaking apart into floating specks, like dust in the sun. These particles—that were once me—scattered outward. Where I had sat, I was now only a swirl of luminous dust, leaving me somewhere between confused and terrified. The world spun ahead of me, leaving no room for panic, no room to understand. In an instant, purple lightning hummed and sounded like the constant static of a bug zapper. The spinning intensified, yet I wasn’t queasy. What the fuck is going on? I realized I was spinning through blackness, as if I was on an otherworldly plane. Then the particles of my body snapped back together and returned it to its human shape. I kept rotating and twirling until, out of nowhere, I smelled old wood and cleaning solution. And then… There I was, sitting on a chair in a—was it a courtroom? My mouth was so dry it felt like sand had settled on my tongue. A dull ache pulsed behind my temples, the kind that usually came from waking too early and too thirsty. My eyes darted across the courtroom, desperate to anchor on something steady, but every face seemed sharpened against me, a blur of judgement I couldn’t decipher. My chest tightened, heavy as stone, and though I begged my body to move, shift, or raise even a finger, nothing obeyed. It was as if my body had betrayed me; every molecule refused to budge. Before I could get one thought together, I heard: “Indy, doodoo, what’s wrong?” Mom. Where am I? ************************* About the author Jennifer Moreno has a master’s degree in creative writing from New York University. Release Day! Restrung: Fatherhood in a Different Key by Matt Fogelson ~ My Thoughts #Restrung Happy Release Day! Congratulations Matton the release today ofRestrung! Restrung: Fatherhood in a Different Key by Matt FogelsonMemoir, Fatherhood, 304 pagesPublished February 3, 2026 by SparkPress Weaving the author’s coming of age in 1980s New York with his life as a father today, this Nick Hornby–meets–Cheryl Strayed debut memoir examines father-son relationships, the pain of early parent loss, and the importance of embracing your passions. For nearly fifteen years, Matt Fogelson didn’t recognize how deeply the early death of his workaholic father had affected him. Then he had a son of his own and the floodgates opened, helping him realize that even deeper than the wound left by his father’s death were the wounds inflicted by his absence while alive. Restrung follows Fogelson from his beginnings as a music-loving kid combing through vinyl in Greenwich Village, through his struggles to overcome his grief during young adulthood, and into becoming a man who is startled by the reemergence of his long-suppressed passion for music after becoming a father. Told with humor, grief, and hope, it’s the story of a passionate music lover’s effort to break free of the real and imagined constraints standing between him and his best life—an effort that ultimately allows Fogelson’s son to know his father in a way Fogelson never knew his. Funny and deeply honest, Restrung is a balm for every father and son fortunate enough to still have each other in their lives. It will inspire readers to try to cross the emotional gulf that seems almost endemic to the father-son relationship and finally break through to one another. My thoughts about Restrung ~~ (I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.) First lines—"'River gonna take me, sing me sweet and sleepy. Sing me sweet and sleepy all the way back home.' Those were the words I sang that finally cracked the code, that finally nudged my two-day-old son Jed off to sleep his first night home. Matt Fogelson documents the importance of music that he has felt his whole life in this interesting memoir. As he becomes a new father, he thinks back to the ways that music has influenced his thinking and feelings for as far back as he can remember.  Growing up loving music, concerts, and playing record albums brought him clarity and thoughts to contemplate. After his father died, he struggled with how to go on, thinking about how much he missed his father and how much his father was missing out on his own son's life. As always, music was the savior comforting him through the bad times and blessing him during the good times.  I enjoyed all the snippets of lyrics and mentions of bands sprinkled throughout the book. Each incident reminded me of how much music was, and still is, such a big part of my own life. In the end, Matt hopes that his own son will take comfort and strength from the music that is so important to him.  Restrung: Fatherhood in a Different Key is a must read for all music lovers!  I received an ARC of Restrung and this is my honest opinion. ******************** About the author Matt Fogelson is a writer and former lawyer whose true passion is music, primarily of the classic rock variety. His Substack, Fine Tuning, blends personal storytelling with a love for the music that makes sense of life, centering on new artists and the intersection of music and parenting.  His work has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Scary Mommy, and NPR. Matt resides in Oakland, California. ~ Amazon Connect with Matt Website | Facebook | Goodreads | Instagram | Amazon ********************* Be sure to check the sidebar for my current giveaways!

Book Blitz! The Rewrite by Beth Rinyu ~ Excerpt and #Giveaway! #TheRewrite @XpressoTours   The Rewrite by Beth Rinyu Publication date: January 29th 2026 Genres: Adult, Comedy, Contemporary, Romance How long would you hold a grudge? If you’re Eloise Hendrickson, the answer is twenty-five years. After being humiliated by her overseas pen pal in seventh grade, Eloise, now a successful writer, has never quite let go of that one mortifying moment. One bad breakup, a late night of drunken internet sleuthing, and a half-baked excuse to bust through writer’s block send her straight into the path of the boy she’s hated her whole life. Her plan? Turn him into the villain of her next novel. The plot twist? He’s not the jerk she remembers. Instead, he’s a charming chocolatier, a devoted family man, and awkwardly, a huge fan of her books. But as Eloise reconnects with the past, it’s not him who captures her attention, it’s someone else entirely. Someone unexpected. He’s rude, infuriating, and gets under her skin like no one else. He’s the exact opposite of the heroes she creates and the men she dates. With new friends, a fresh perspective, and possibly the beginnings of something romantic—Eloise must decide if she’s finally ready to let go of the perfection she’s always demanded from herself as well as everyone around her, and embrace the unpredictable, wonderfully flawed life waiting for her. Maybe her next bestseller won’t be about righting the past after all. Maybe it will be about rewriting the future instead. Warning: This book may contain chocolate and possibly a happily ever after. Goodreads | Amazon ********************************* EXCERPT “Okay, so if booty calls are off the table. What about a friendship? Seeing he’s such a decent guy? You’re a lonely woman in a strange country. He’s an available strapping man. Maybe it would be nice to have someone just to hang out with. I mean… not someone like you and me someone. Let’s face it, I’m irreplaceable.” “No,” I cut in. “Like I said, he’s nice. For someone else. Whether it’s sex or friendship, I’m not interested. And for the record, I’m not lonely.” “Yes, yes, how could I forget, your social circle now includes preteens and senior citizens.” “I happen to like my new friends, both young and old.” “Ella, honey.” Charlie gave me that look that was equal parts exasperated and concerned. “All I’m saying is, maybe this is your moment to let your hair down a little. You’re always so tightly wound, and this breakup didn’t exactly loosen the screws. Maybe it’s time to expand your horizons. Try something different. Someone different. Maybe this guy is the kind of non-Kent energy you need.” “Okay, when did you get a PHD in Psychology?” I snapped. “Reading radar maps and reading the human psyche are kind of the same thing. Both are temperamental and can change in a heartbeat,” he teased. “Charlie, I love and appreciate you, but stick to doing the weather. You’re much better at that!” “One last question, and then I promise I’ll ixnay the subject.” “What?” I didn’t even try to hide my annoyance. “Do you call him Mr. Moreau or Grace’s daddy?” “Goodbye, Charlie!” I blew him a kiss and disconnected our call. ********************************* About the author I've always had a passion for Creative Writing. There's something special about being able to travel to a different place or become a different person with just the stroke of a pen—or in today's world, a tap of the keyboard. Maybe it all started with the soap opera-level drama I used to script for my Barbie dolls. Plot twists, emotional arcs, surprise twins... it was basically a writer’s room before I even knew what one was. Whatever the spark, storytelling quickly became my favorite creative outlet. I craft stories that keep me on my toes and constantly push me beyond my comfort zone. Deep characters you either root for or love to hate are the ones I’m most drawn to. Exploring new places helps me uncover fresh and exciting settings for my books, but there’s nothing quite like a quiet walk in the woods or sitting by the ocean close to home. Turns out, plot twists and inspiration arrive just as easily with a sea breeze—or a few curious squirrels. Release Day! The Unwritten Rules of Magic by Harper Ross ~ My Thoughts #TheUnwrittenRulesOfMagic Happy Release Day! Congratulations Harperon the release today ofThe Unwritten Rules of Magic! The Unwritten Rules of Magic by Harper RossMagical Realism, Fiction, 320 pagesPublished January 27, 2026 by St. Martin's Press For fans of The Midnight Library and In Five Years, The Unwritten Rules of Magic is a spellbinding novel that blends magic and memory in an unforgettable journey through love, grief, and the hidden cost of perfection across three generations of women. Emerson Clarke can’t remember a time when she felt in control of her life. Her father—a celebrated author—blew in and out of her childhood like a hurricane until he got Alzheimer’s. Her mother numbed loneliness with gin. And recently, her teen daughter has shut her out without explanation. The only place Emerson has ever been in charge is in front of the keyboard where, as a ghostwriter, she dictates everything that happens on the page. If only she could arrange reality the same way, life could be perfect. An impossible fantasy—or so she believes until she makes a startling discovery. After her father’s wake, Emerson steals her father’s vintage typewriter—the very one he’d forbidden anyone to touch—and tests its keys by typing out a frivolous wish. After it comes true the very next day, she tries another. When those words also spring to life, she becomes obsessed with using the typewriter to engineer happiness for herself and her daughter. Easier said than done. As Emerson shapes her real-life circumstances, she uncovers disturbing truths about her family’s history and the unexpected cost for each story-come-true. She should destroy the typewriter, but when her daughter's secret finally emerges, Emerson is torn between paying the price for bending fate and embracing the uncertainty of an unscripted life. My thoughts about The Unwritten Rules of Magic ~~ (I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.) First lines—"My father kept his good-luck charm locked in the antique curio cabinet in his office." I'm a huge fan of magical realism stories. I didn't know this about myself until I found myself lost in some of the most wonderful stories I've read. The Unwritten Rules of Magic is a great addition to these books that I have come to love.  Emerson Clarke never would have guessed that her father's 'most prized' possession would open up a magical world for her. But it's magic comes at a cost and is that cost worth it to Emerson and her loved ones? As she works through the magic her father experienced and that she is now discovering, she finds out a lot about her family and what is most important to all of them. The Unwritten Rules of Magic was an amazing escape read and made me, as the reader, really think about being careful what you wish for because all wishes are not granted in the way you want them to be. This is Harper Ross' debut novel and I'm excited to see what she writes next.  I received an ARC of The Unwritten Rules of Magic and this is my honest opinion. ******************** About the author Harper Ross’s debut magical realism novel, The Unwritten Rules of Magic, releases with St. Martin's Press on January 27th, 2026. She's eager to meet every bookworm who picks up her work and hopes they’ll stay in touch via social media or email. Harper has enjoyed a lifelong love affair with the dramatic story worlds in books and movies. After leaving her legal practice, she discovered her own creative side and began writing novels that explore friendship, family, and forgiveness. Because she also appreciates the magic in everyday life—from the spark of attraction to those serendipitous moments we all experience—you’ll find a dash of that in her work too. When she’s not at the keyboard, she’s likely to be singing badly in her car, dancing in her kitchen, or walking her adorable dog, Mo. She’s also a lucky wife and mother to a very patient and supportive family.  Connect with Harper Website | Facebook | Goodreads | Instagram ********************* Be sure to check the sidebar for my current giveaways!

Release Day! A Box Full of Darkness by Simone St. James ~ My Thoughts #ABoxFullOfDarkness Happy Release Day! Congratulations Simoneon the release today ofA Box Full of Darkness! A Box Full of Darkness by Simone St. JamesGhost Thrillers, Paranormal Suspense, 344 pagesPublished January 20, 2026 by Berkley Siblings return to the house they fled eighteen years before, called back by the ghost of their long-missing brother and his haunting request to come home. Strange things happen in Fell, New York: A mysterious drowning at the town’s roadside motel. The unexplained death of a young girl whose body is left by the railroad tracks. For Violet, Vail, and Dodie Esmie the final straw was their little brother's shocking disappearance, which started as a normal game of hide-and-seek. As their parents grew increasingly distant, the sisters were each haunted by visions and frightening events, leading them to leave town and never look back. Violet still sees dead people—spirits who remind her of Sister, the menacing presence that terrorized her for years. Now after nearly two decades it’s time for a homecoming—because Ben is back, and he’s ready to lead them to the answers they’ve longed for and long feared. My thoughts about A Box Full of Darkness ~~ (I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.) First lines—"When I wake in the middle of the night, I don't always see darkness." What can I say about A Box Full of Darkness? I absolutely loved it!  I am a huge fan of Simone St. James and love her stories. This one takes the reader to the dark world of Fell, NY, where lots of mysterious things and deaths have happened over the years. Is it all a coincidence or is there something really evil in the town?  Violet, Vail, and Dodie Esmie are 'called back' to their hometown and they all reluctantly go. They need to solve the mysterious disappearance of their little brother Ben once and for all. But what they discover is not pleasant for anyone. Do they have the strength and belief in themselves to conquer the evil that they uncover? This was a gripping, creepy story that I devoured, just like I have all of St. James' other tales. It kept me on the edge of my seat while pushing me to the exciting ending. I highly recommend A Box Full of Darkness, especially if you like creepy suspense thrillers. This is a definitely a good one! I received an ARC of A Box Full of Darkness and this is my honest opinion. ******************** About the author Simone St. James is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of The Book of Cold Cases, The Sun Down Motel, The Broken Girls and The Haunting of Maddy Clare, which won two RITA awards from Romance Writers of America and an Arthur Ellis Award from Crime Writers of Canada. Release Day! The Fair Weather Friend by Jessie Garcia ~ My Thoughts #TheFairWeatherFriend Happy Release Day! Congratulations Jessieon the release today ofThe Fair Weather Friend! The Fair Weather Friend by Jessie GarciaThrillers, Mystery, 320 pagesPublished January 20, 2026 by St. Martin's Press The next gripping domestic suspense novel from Jessie Garcia. It's always sunny in Detroit for Faith Richards. The popular TV meteorologist, endearingly referred to as "The Fair Weather Friend" by her viewers, has the world by the tail. But one night, Faith leaves work on a dinner break and never returns. Her body is found the next morning. The town is reeling, suspects emerge, and long-buried secrets are uncovered. While her allies rally, her list of adversaries also grows. Little does anyone know that only the deepest secrets will expose the truth. In this riveting thriller from the author of The Business Trip, Jessie Garcia's signature multi-POV, rapid-fire style will propel you into the heart of a mystery no one could have forecasted. My thoughts about The Fair Weather Friend ~~ (I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.) First lines—"June 1 and 2. When television viewers in Detroit sat down to watch the eleven o'clock news on Channel 9 that Friday, they expected to see the usual:..." Expect a twisty storyline with a lot of interesting, possibly guilty, characters. When Faith, the very popular online weather person, goes missing, it seems that everyone might have a motive and their own opinions about what happened to her. It turns out, Faith might not be the beloved person everyone thought she was. The twisty part is that with each new point of view, you will be wondering if that person is the guilty one.  This was a fast read as I wanted the mystery to be figured out and find out for sure what happened to Faith. The ending is not what I expected, a total surprise. I love when an author can do that for me. The Fair Weather Friend was in intriguing read that I enjoyed very much! A Tiny White Light: A Memoir of a Mind in Crisis by Linda BassMemoir, 312 pagesPublished January 20, 2026 by She Writes Press From an author with a psychology background, a candid memoir about the interior of her own psychotic episode and its origins in guilt, lost purpose, conflict between mothering and career, and the ambiguity in her relationship with her therapist. Just after Linda, nineteen, and her brother Brian, eighteen, move from their tiny country town in Wisconsin to the tumult of Los Angeles in 1967, the Summer of Love, their parents decide to divorce—and for the first time, the two teenagers find themselves truly on their own. Forced to fend for himself, Brian’s life quickly spirals He hitchhikes around the country, lands in psychiatric hospitals and jails, and, finally, commits an irrevocable act. Plagued with guilt over her role in Brian’s deterioration, Linda loses her own sense of purpose, gives up a promising career in psychology, and finds herself in a life she never envisioned—poor, alcoholic, an accidental parent in an unhappy marriage, feeling invisible and alone. When Linda’s husband, Jake, urges her to see Sam, a psychologist, for help in quitting smoking, Sam quickly becomes a touchstone for what she has her sense of self. Feeling truly seen, she falls in love with him, and she believes he might return her feelings. But he offers her only mixed messages, and the ambiguity triggers her descent into a psychotic episode—one that echoes her dreams, Brian’s experience, and Sam’s own phobia. Will she follow her brother’s path—or will she find her way back to herself and create the life she longs to live? ******************** Advance Praise for A Tiny White Light  "Through poetic and thought-provoking prose, [Bass] examines the human need for companionship and connection with refreshing candor, not shying away from describing the darker aspects of her own impulses and behavior . . . the work’s exceptional prose and unflinching honesty make for an engaging read . . . A skillfully written personal exploration.”—Kirkus Reviews “Exquisitely written with vivid imagery, this enthralling memoir takes one on a harrowing journey to madness and back.”—Bonnie R. Strickland, PhD, former president of the American Psychological Association and author of Leaving the Confederate Closet ”An evocative memoir that immerses the reader in the author’s descent into psychosis. With unflinching vividness, Bass translates the logic of madness, the distortions of perception, and the sensory overload of a fractured mind not just as an experience, but as a surreal world with its own internal consistency. For anyone interested in how the mind works, this story is critical and relevant.”—Rosie McMahan, EdM, author of Fortunate Daughter: A Memoir of Reconciliation ”Brave, bold, illuminating, and well-written, this memoir is essential reading for anyone interested in the human mind and overcoming adversity. It is especially relevant for those touched by mental illness and clinicians seeking to understand the lived experience of psychosis from the inside."—Julie Savitch, EdD, author of My Other Kids: A Memoir of Child Advocacy and the Power of Showing Up “Truly the most authentic, disturbing and riveting description of psychosis I’ve ever read, barring perhaps Jack Kerouac’s depiction of alcoholic psychosis in his memoir Big Sur.”—Dori Ostermiller, author of Outside the Ordinary World “A Tiny White Light is a lyrical memoir in which living is treated as a continual search for meaning and self-worth . . . A revealing memoir about hitting rock bottom and digging one’s way out . . . toward a triumphant ending.”—Foreword Clarion Review ”Burdened by a life marked by trauma, neglect, and solitude, Bass begins to experience a psychotic episode during psychotherapy. This book shows how what she calls “craziness” is a strategy for survival in the face of deep hurt—and a catalyst for confronting life’s challenges in a new way.”—Stijn Vanheule, professor of clinical psychology at Ghent University and author of Why Psychosis Is Not So Crazy “Spanning time, place, and people, A Tiny White Light provides a compelling portrait of mental illness and the long, winding road of recovery.”—Maria Galano, PhD, assistant professor of clinical psychology, UMass Amherst “A brave, brilliant and beautifully written book.”—Michele Orwin, author of Waiting for Next Week About the author Linda Bass holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from UCLA and a master’s degree in psychology from UC Berkeley. Release Day! The Lost Ballerina by Deanna Lynn Sletten ~ My Thoughts #TheLostBallerina @DeannaLSletten Happy Release Day! Congratulations Deannaon the release today ofThe Lost Ballerina! The Lost Ballerina by Deanna Lynn SlettenWomen's Sagas, 229 pagesPublished January 13, 2026 by Deanna Lynn Sletten Two generations. Two dreams. One story powerful enough to change a life. 1963—Evalina Ashford has spent her life reaching for her dream. Raised with little more than determination and a passion for dance, she has fought her way into the revered halls of the New York City Ballet under the watchful eye of the great choreographer, George Balanchine. Just as her long-held dream is finally within reach, a devastating betrayal from someone she loves threatens to shatter everything—her future, her trust, and the very identity she has built through years of sacrifice. Today—Seventeen-year-old Madison Carlson is having the kind of summer she’d rather forget. With her car wrecked by her boyfriend and her parents urging her toward a “sensible” career path, she’s stuck mowing lawns to earn repair money and questioning every choice she’s made. When Maddie reluctantly knocks on the door of the old house the neighborhood kids whisper about, she expects to be turned away. Instead, she meets two elderly ladies with a past that glimmers with secrets and heartache—and one woman whose extraordinary story inspires Maddie to reclaim herself, her dreams, and her future. Across decades, the lives of a rising ballerina and a struggling teenager intertwine, revealing how courage, mentorship, and the stories we share can change everything. My thoughts about The Lost Ballerina ~~ (I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.) First lines—"Madison Carlson stood at the end of the long driveaway, staring at the home that all teens in the neighborhood believed was haunted." I got lost in the storyline of The Lost Ballerina. (See what I did there.) I love dual timelines in stories, where we learn the story behind what is happening in the the present. And no one does dual timelines better than Deanna. I'm a huge fan of her historical novels—you can tell she does the research to write her stories authentically. And then to throw in two related stories takes her stories over the top. Madison has to step out of her comfort zone to approach the two elderly women who are perceived as witches by the neighborhood kids. What she finds is not at all what she expected and she forges a deep friendship with them. As their past is revealed, Madison discovers so much about them, her family, and herself.  The Lost Ballerina was an eye opening look at the world of ballet for me. I now understand a little bit of what it takes to be the best and and how hard people have to work studying ballet. It was heartwarming to learn about the love and sacrifice that Evalina and her mother went through so that Evalina could live her dream. Life lesson for all of us—live your best life and follow you dreams.  I loved everything about The Lost Ballerina and highly recommend it.  I received an ARC of The Lost Ballerina and this is my honest opinion. ******************** About the author Deanna Lynn Sletten is the author of Mrs. Winchester's Biographer, The Ones We Leave Behind, The Women of Great Heron Lake, Maggie's Turn, The Lake Harriet Series, and several other titles. Release Day! The Storm by Rachel Hawkins ~ My Thoughts #TheStorm Happy Release Day! Congratulations Rachelon the release today ofThe Storm! The Storm by Rachel HawkinsMystery, Thriller, 288 pagesPublished January 6, 2026 by St. Martin's Press St. Medard's Bay, Alabama is famous for three things: the deadly hurricanes that regularly sweep into town, the Rosalie Inn, a century-old hotel that's survived every one of those storms, and Lo Bailey, the local girl infamously accused of the murder of her lover, political scion Landon Fitzroy, during Hurricane Marie in 1984. When Geneva Corliss, the current owner of the Rosalie Inn, hears a writer is coming to town to research the crime that put St. Medard's Bay on the map, she's less interested in solving a whodunnit than in how a successful true crime book might help the struggling inn's bottom line. But to her surprise, August Fletcher doesn't come to St. Medard's Bay alone. With him is none other than Lo Bailey herself. Lo says she's returned to her hometown to clear her name once and for all, but the closer Geneva gets to both Lo and August, the more she wonders if Lo is actually back to settle old scores. As the summer heats up and another monster storm begins twisting its way towards St. Medard's Bay, Geneva learns that some people can be just as destructive--and as deadly--as any hurricane, and that the truth of what happened to Landon Fitzroy may not be the only secret Lo is keeping... My thoughts about The Storm ~~ (I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.) First lines—"'It's worse when they come at night'" Hurricanes are really scary to live through. And then throw in a woman accused of murder coming back to town to try to clear her name. Is she really innocent or is she really up to no good?  As with all of the other stories by Rachel Hawkins, the reader is taken on a journey with questions piling up before answers are given. Twists and turns, secrets and lies abound. Getting to the truth is what kept me turning the pages. And what a satisfying ending it was, after all that. I have read all of Rachel's thrillers and I am never disappointed. The Storm is another great one and I can highly recommend. I received an ARC of The Storm and this is my honest opinion. ******************** About the author Rachel Hawkins is the New York Times bestselling author of The Wife Upstairs, Reckless Girls, The Villa, and The Heiress, as well as multiple books for young readers.
