As we approach the end of what has been a big year for all, we are delighted to share this overview of activity in the School of Art from 2025.
"He will be deeply missed by so many, in so many ways."
Professor Kit Wise
Dean, School of Art
"Generations of artists have benefitted from his kindness, insight and imagination and I know that even with health challenges in recent years, Phil was still actively attending openings, discussing art and of course, painting."
"More than once he would walk into my office to pre-empt a problem someone else was facing, check I was informed and share his opinion. He told me the weather in the School, now and ahead, which I greatly valued."
"Phil was in many respects the epitome of the School: deeply committed to his students, selfless in his support of his peers (including as a long-standing NTEU and Health and Safety Representative) and always considering what he could do to contribute."
"This will be a challenging time for all of us who knew him through his many years at RMIT as a member of the Painting Studio for three decades. Phil formally retired earlier this year but has remained in contact and closely interested in the School. My thoughts are with Phil's family at this time."
"It is with great sadness that yesterday the School of Art received the very difficult news that Dr Phil Edwards has passed away."
