Turmoil: The Official Autobiography After 30 years at the Metropolitan Police, former Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu is ready to reveal the truth behind the organisation with this compelling account of his rise through the ranks.

I remember meeting this guy at a wedding in 1996. His book is all you need to know about the Met being used as a political apparatus. www.quarto.com/books/978071...

It’s the Met Police, they are storm troopers nowadays. (I say this who has had β€˜insider’ knowledge of the force via my partner since 1994)

If you're going after the Quakers, you probably need to take a good, long, hard look at yourself in the mirror.

Because it's almost guaranteed that you are the problem here.

Fancy being led into world conflict by such a mob of hateful, reprehensible people. That’s what feels even more devastating this time around. Even in the disaster of the Iraq invasion, while we knew they were lying, they hadn’t been going out of their way to be the most vile, venal criminals.

Charting the circulating proteome in ME/CFS using cross-system profiling to uncover mechanistic insights Hoel et al. characterize circulating proteomic signatures in ME/CFS and identify widespread tissue-linked alterations, including increased secreted proteins and reduced intracellular proteins. Bergen, 79 participants, found ME/CFS blood shows widespread protein shifts, with fewer intracellular proteins especially from muscle and bone marrow but more secreted immune, vascular, and metabolic signals, including reduced neutrophil proteins.

Statement from Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice UK:

Thank you to all our members who are here today, and to everyone who travelled to stand with us. We wanted to mark this moment together. It matters to our campaign, and to everyone who fought for answers.

Five years ago, we began calling for a public inquiry into the deaths of our loved ones. Today, after thousands of hours of hearings, the final witness has been heard by the Inquiry that we made happen.

This moment belongs to many people. To the thousands bereaved by Covid across the country who came together and refused to be silent. To our legal team, who made sure bereaved families were recognised and taken seriously.

To the campaigns and trade unions who stood alongside us when we demanded a judge-led public inquiry. This happened because ordinary people refused to be ignored.

A public inquiry is one of the few ways ordinary people can force answers into the open. Documents are disclosed. Decisions are examined. The powerful are forced to answer for their actions.

Over the years, we have heard hundreds of hours of evidence, and although only two of ten reports have been published so far, the Inquiry’s verdict on those in power during the pandemic has already been damning.

Thousands of lives were cut short because of government incompetence, chaos and callousness. That is what this Inquiry has exposed. And that truth is now on the public record.

But the Inquiry is not over. Over the next two years, it will publish further reports on healthcare, PPE, care homes and more.

Those reports will give us a blueprint for saving lives. Our job now is to ensure that blueprint turns into action.

Another crisis is inevitable. It is a question of when, not if, and despite six years having passed since the start of the pandemic, the country is still not prepared.

The government must use the blueprint this Inquiry provides to change the country for the better and take decisive, urgent action.

That is why we w…

The Longreads Questionnaire, Featuring Rebecca Solnit - Longreads The author of The Beginning Comes After the End talks about jackrabbits, her own β€œinformational hypervigilance,” and the one word she won’t stop using.

What five items would you place in a time capsule?

Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and maybe Mohammed bin Salman, to be opened, carefully, with precautions, in the year 3026.

The DoD in Oz were having boners over some locally designed supersonic missile prototype when I went to their show case circa 2017? I presume the tech has been transferred to the US/UK by now.
