In 2021, Myanmarβs military carried out a coup dβΓ©tat, overthrowing the civilian government. In the aftermath, communities across the country faced massacres, airstrikes, and deepening poverty amid a collapsing economy. Civilian leaders were detained, including Aung San Suu Kyi, one of the nationβs most prominent political figures.
Five years later, the junta has moved forward with an election in which its allied parties dominate. Meanwhile, public resistance continues across the country. We seek to highlight the ongoing efforts of the Burmese people for peace and democracy.
