Doing things like that doesn’t restore border control; that’s about who comes in. The Home Office’s own evidence concedes that there is insufficient evidence that restrictive asylum policies reduce incoming asylum claimants.
These calls are all about politics and values - we must get them right.
I agree with the Home Sec that Labour values include fairness, tolerance (inclusion), and patriotism.
But these values don’t mean we should threaten to forcibly remove refugees who have lived here lawfully for 15 or 20 years. That breeds fractured communities.
