Like, what is the good use of those entries on Wikipedia? How could it go bad and wrong?

And if you doubt me on this, check into the r/genealogy forum, which I noped out of after starting to see claims by some posters of being "heritage Americans," or somesuch stupid label, because they could trace their ancestry to colonial times.

One branch of my family is genealogy-obsessed. I have long thought that, for many people -- and maybe not everyone in my family -- "genealogy" is about whiteness.

I am a big fan of Wikipedia (and an extremely occasional editor.)

That said, can someone explain to me -- like I'm five -- why biographical entries dive so creepily into people's heritage? Like, why would I care to know that his grandmother was a Catholic, Zoroastrian, Jew, Muslim, etc.
