Delighted to share our paper on developing a catchment-level indicator for subsurface nutrient export risk. It focuses on how nutrients from areas not well connected via surface waters (eg, rivers) can reach the sea through subsurface pathways, framed in the context of the #BalticSea

Exciting Postdoc opportunity to join this amazing team at TCD Geography working on cutting-edge peatland mapping! www.linkedin.com/posts/johnco...
Does degradation alter the spatial variability of peat properties and lead to ecosystem homogenisation? Check out our new paper: "Flatlining fens? Small-scale variations in peat properties and microtopography as indicators of ecosystem homogenisation" #peatland #wetland #fen tinyurl.com/35ask22p
🌳New study exploring the importance of tree diversity for C cycling and climate change mitigation in tropical forests.
From a great team, brilliantly led by @mixedforests.bsky.social.
Results are nicely discussed in the press release:

Just stumbled upon a thought provoking piece on rewilding.
".. a more concrete, specific and future-embracing rewilding would be to look for places and spaces in which humans and nonhumans can co-exist."

4 technical experts.
Image of the Alaska Peatland Experiment fen.
I presented my #AGU24 talk this morning and wanted to summarize my take homes. 20 yrs ago I created the Alaska Peatland Experiment (APEX) to experimentally push hydrology into wetter and drier modes. CO2 emissions are remarkable stable while CH4 is very high with flooding. 1/
Proof that we can and must help boglands to heal. Look at this progress in just one year.
Working with farmers 🚜 is key for the @WaterLANDS_EU Irish Action Site 🇮🇪 To deliver restoration, building capacity is essential💪 For this reason, we have published the first toolkit⚒️ to restore blanket bogs! 🌱

I’ll be giving a talk on Friday 13th December at 10:30am: ‘Climate, vegetation and disturbance predict green leaf phenology across temperate, boreal and arctic peatlands’
I finally get to finally present the #PeatPicProject
Indeed, time to think about submissions for #EGU25 - with more #peatland sessions than ever! Thank you @garethclay.bsky.social for the links. And all peatland folks, join us in Vienna and submit your abstract by 02.12.! We recommend our session on management& paludiculture 😎 @thuenenpeat.bsky.social

We're looking for a postdoc to work on peatland GHG fluxes for the next two years starting February. I'll post details once they're confirmed, but happy to speak to anyone interested to work on peatland restoration in central Scotland.
#PeatSky #PhDposition still open until 15 Nov! Are you interested in emissions and processes of GHG fluxes of rewetted agricultural land on peat? Join us at the University of Rostock, @aerenchyma.bsky.social
