It’s stupid and playing with people’s lives is exactly why a fucking business person shouldn’t be within 1,000 miles of public office. But the silver lining is that these high tariffs wont stick for more than a week or so, imo.
It’s a classic part of his business approach: come in either too low or too high depending which side of the deal he’s on, then he gloats about how he got a great deal when it’s negotiated up or down.
Obviously could be entirely wrong but the cartoonishly high tariffs seem to be just one of trumps negotiation tactics. He’ll start super high before removing most of them and saying that he made a great deal.
