Freedom of speech is our greatest asset. It seems, however, this administration needs a refresh on what the First Amendment includes.

It is genuinely wild how many business practices rely on people with power not actually understanding what is going on.

I’m obviously focused on tech, but I’ve been pointing to Elizabeth Warren as an example where having someone who knows an industry makes a huge difference in regulating it.

These are just a few of the many black people here who stood up for what they thought was right. They showed us time and time again that change doesn’t happen just by sitting back, waiting for policies to change. They knew democracy can’t wait.

In 1973, Salem State’s Afro-American society wrote the “Valentine’s Day Manifesto, following a racist incident on campus. They asked for more Black staff and courses on Black history and culture. Today, the college teaches more than 10 courses focused on Black history.

Caesar Hendrick from Newburyport famously sued for his freedom and won. Also from Newburyport was the Revolutionary soldier Pomp Jackson, who won his freedom, joined the Continental Army, and was bunked in Valley Forge.

Another figure against slavery and for women’s rights was Charles Lenox Remond, a Salem native. He was anti-miscegenation laws, petitioned for the abolishment of capital punishment, and called for the desegregation of schools in Boston.

Frederick Douglas wrote his “Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas, An American Slave” here in Lynn. This book not only sparked more resistance in the Abolitionary Movement, but his work lived on throughout history to inspire others.

AI isn’t new to me. I was writing software for self-driving cars back in 2008.

As long as it was just research, we were fine. Now that consumers are using it, we need people in Congress who understand what they are regulating.
