I like to go fast. Moved to Boston in 1976 to attend MIT. Decided this was home. The Cradle of Liberty. Retired software engineer. Some of my software flew on the Space Shuttle. Motorcyclist, photographer, hacker, reader of all kinds of things.

Today I finally managed to mount my family's Christmas present on my motorcycle: an SW-Motech Daypack tank bag (the old one can now enjoy a well-deserved retirement after almost 20 years). The improved closure alone made the switch worthwhile.πŸ€—

My dad considered lotto tickets to be voluntary taxes. He sometimes played. Occasionally he would win small stakes, like $20 or so. Never anything big.

Even a hundred bucks would have been nice.

Found a MegaMillions ticket sitting in my car from last July.

β€œCould it be I’ve been driving around with tens of millions of dollars in my car this whole time?”

No. No, it couldn’t. 😭😭😭

As a student programmer at Cincom Systems in 1975, I actually told my bosses this about some code I was reviewing, and they literally laughed at me.

Cincom Systems still exists. They are not laughing now.

I went to a family day event at a US Army base where my father worked, around 1978 or so. We played that text based star trek. They also had a biorhythm program. I asked for my biorhythm on 12/31/9999 and crashed the entire mainframe.

in high school, late 70s, I did used to go to the University of Iowa computer lab and somehow we'd get student's logins and play text-based star trek games for hours on end. until one time some fucking student left a trojan horse, if you logged in thru his account you crashed the system.

Most of the media is demanding that everybody supports the war effort. Well, sod that. This is an illegal conflict, launched by a decrepit American to distract from his domestic problems, which has already killed hundreds of women and children. I didn’t back the Iraq war in 2003. Nor this one!

I saw some Nazi bimbo reassuring fascist voters about the Iran War saying "There is nothing more American than taking out terrorists," but not sure if she meant killing those school girls in Iran or Lord Dampnut pardoning and taking out for lunch conservative, Republican terrorists here in the USA.

Leavitt: "When he as commander in chief determines that Iran no longer poses a threat to the US and the goals of Operation Epic Fury have been fully realized, then Iran will essentially be in a place of unconditional surrender whether they say it themselves or not"

Remember when words communicated concepts which could be combined to express ideas? Those were the days. I miss language.

When all of these massive data breaches start to be collated together (tfl 10 million people, idido etc) will there be anything left that hasn't been leaked. It must be possible to put together a mathematical model as to what point in time everyone who currently exists data has been leaked

This is why I assume anything cloud based has leaked.

Anything important in my cloud files is encrypted separately.

This is why I don't use cloud based password managers. It's going to be penetrated sooner or later. Attractive target.

Emmanuel Damas first reported tooth pain to staff on 2/12 and was given ibuprofen. His condition worsened. A fellow detainee reported that staff laughed and said Damas was faking as he cried for help. He developed sepsis, and was transferred to a hospital last week. He died on 3/3/26. πŸ’”

A dentist would have easily and quickly determined if he was faking it.

They should be charged with negligent murder, plain and simple.

I charged my EV last night (from 20 percent to 100 percent) and it cost me about $17.

Beyond the no gas, the car just rides so beautifully. Got it in July and cannot imagine ever going back to gas car.

I am frankly more concerned about the apathy of the American public and even more importantly the lack of leadership in the Democratic Party.

This is not a dress rehearsal. Every single American must speak out against this Facist administration.

people that hate cats are so funny to me because the things they complain about also are complaints autistic people hear about themselves β€œunfriendly” β€œunapproachable” β€œmean” etc

meanwhile the cats and the autistics are just minding our business and not seeking validation from someone
