Still raging about the abject moral abomination of Brexitism. Things I rage about less: Herodotus/5thc Athens, mograph/VFX, music.

Trump's invasion is the most unpopular war in modern US history. That matters. It shows the public is not reflexively pro war even at moments of intense propaganda bombardment.

It's really tanking with groups Trump made inroads among. Look at the numbers below! 2/

I was in a 2 hour briefing today on the Iran War. All the briefings are closed, because Trump can't defend this war in public.

I obviously can't disclose classified info, but you deserve to know how incoherent and incomplete these war plans are.

1/ Here's what I can share:

So that’s that, right? We don’t have to put up with endless drivel about how expensive it is to save the planet abd ourselves ever again? Cool.

The government has announced that migrants will have to pass an English language test at the B2 level to obtain settlement, up from the current B1 level.

This change will come into force in March 2027.

Navy's Avenger Class Mine Hunters Have Left The Middle East For Good The last four Avengers in Bahrain were carried off on a heavy lift vessel at a time of crisis, where mining the Persian Gulf could come into play.

And now the really fun part of the story…

The β€žWarβ€œ Department just withdrew the last of the old Avenger-class minesweepers from the Persian Gulf in January.

So much competent planning. πŸ˜πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

5/ And on the Strait of Hormuz, they had NO PLAN. I can't go into more detail about how Iran gums up the Strait, but suffice it say, right now, they don't know how to get it safely back open.

Which is unforgiveable, because this part of the disaster was 100% foreseeable.

I am so full of admiration for Charlotte Nichols’ courage in talking about this - particularly awful that as a woman in public life she will have had to consider first how people might use this information against her, especially online. Hope she has all the support she needs.

I am pretty sure that what attracts voters to people like Trump and Farage is the spectacle of someone living the cynical, consequence-free life they wish they could have.

Chris Murphy: "I Just came from a two hour, closed door classified briefing on the war. It just confirmed to me it's totally incoherent. We are not gonna be able to achieve any of our stated objectives ... this is a disaster of epic proportions, a 10 day debacle"

Can anyone explain to me what the Blue Labour justification for this is? Who out there will vote Labour because Mahmood prevented a Sudanese Chevening Scholar? And to be honest, why won’t the PM simply overrule her?

It worked with huge amounts of help from the rightwing media. And a dogged refusal to make anyone really accountable for their failures and lies. Maybe we could stop doing that now and see how our democracy and national wellbeing improves as a result.

Shocking that we wouldn't let her come... and claim asylum too. The very smallest gesture against the oppression of women and girls in Afghanistan.

This very straight news piece buried deep within the FT never uses words like corruption or insider dealing but every detail is quietly devastating. Why is the FT virtually alone in the UK media in covering this important story?

The β€œAI productivity” grifters focus so much on academia (students and faculty) because it is a technology originally designed for cheating and fraud. If you never read papers or design your own studies, you aren’t a researcher. If you don’t write your own work, you aren’t a student. You’re a fake.

BBC apologise for the irrelevant reply. But their new reply does not respond to my complaint about whether his claim was inaccurate so needs to be corrected. Just "Mr Farage's point about net migration unfortunately wasn't picked up at the time of recording".

Just says they challenged other things

The President of the USA is now openly threatening Iran with being the target of one of the greatest crimes in world history. Trump is saying he will destroy the basis of life for more than 90 million people.
He should be removed from office for this.

This was the point Starmer implied in his answer to Badenoch on this at last PMQs. My sense is that she & others have the idea (if so, an especially strange one for a Conservative) that NS oil is 'ours' and that, as such, UK consumers have first dibs on it at a price capped by the government.

Screeching 180 from Reform leader Farage who’s gone from Trumpian β€œBomb the Islamists” to β€œWe cannot get involved directly in another foreign war, we don’t have a Navy, we can’t even defend our own military base in Cyprus” overnight.

He’s seen the polling showing the public don’t support the war.

Very interesting how out of line the r/w media are on this, given their pretensions to know their readers. I was struck by responses to a very gung-ho piece in the Mail over the weekend where, at a rough guess, 75% or so of them were very resistant to the article's line.

I try very hard not to use the word Orwellian too much but it’s the best adjective for the mauling of language at the start of this BBC News report. β€œβ€¦ an anti-hate demonstration that turned violent”. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

If this is actually the new set of strategic goals, the Trump administration is admitting that they have strategically failed and this has been a disaster.
