Lovely subject! Annie Proux's short story 'Brokeback Mountain' and Ted Chiang's short story 'Story of Your Life', which became the film 'Arrival', are my favouites (and great for teaching because the short story form adapts so well for film).
I will use the money for some Talcum Powder which I need at the moment.
Beautiful time learning from the confer kaleidoscope that is animal studies with @animalstudies.bsky.social. Especially special to have @laurajeanmckay.bsky.social virtually present through the astute readings of @cbayes.bsky.social et al.

My advice? Don't wait until your mid-40's to do the thing you always wanted to do. But if you do, don't wait any longer because it's joyous. And we don't want you missing out on joy amidst the weight of the heartbreaking and enraging. @laurajeanmckay.bsky.social @munsterlitcentre.bsky.social
Love this! Thank you!
This article means a huge amount to me. Furthering earlier work on @laurajeanmckay.bsky.social's award-winning novel, it explores the post-colonial invoking of @margaretatwood.bsky.social as a way to advance Animal Sociology #research #postcolonial #SpeculativeFiction #sociology #animals #futures

The little Meanjin collection that I helped bring into the world as editor. Just a fragment of its 85-year catalogue. What an act of bone-stupid arrogance to kill it.

The swirl of fur and dust and the smell of cat shit both acrid and sweetβthe smell of life, for us. The felines appeal through the bars as I waddle through the caged aisles.
