How I’m celebrating my return to the workforce.

Granted, the real countdown is how long before my transphobic Born Again Christian Republican brother starts asking me for money, as he regularly does everyone in our family who is employed. (And/or retired and barely squeaking by financially, like our 85-y/o mother, whom he regularly bilks.)

Today, I received my first paycheck since March 2025. I need to not get too used to it because it's a short-term gig which is supposed to be over by the end of this month, but still, wow. It's been a while, and not something I expected to happen so soon. (Counterpoint: it took a very long time!)

Young people are seeing through him.

Not one of these ghouls knows a trans kid, understands anything about the actual circumstances or humanity of trans kids, or gives a shit. To them, trans kids play a purely symbolic role: they are a Weak Other that can be abused as form of collective self-soothing. So fucking gross.

It is repulsive to me -- morally, aesthetically, politically -- on a scale that I genuinely don't know how to describe. It's just so deeply, deeply gross, to be so filled with weakness that you abuse other, weaker people to feel better. What a horrible kind of human, to do that, to *allow* that.

I lack the words to capture it, but ... it's just endlessly remarkable to me that so many people in our society have chosen trans kis -- TRANS KIDS, the smallest, least significant, most vulnerable demographic slice you could possibly pick -- as a repository for all their fears & insecurities.

That said, jfc, what a horrifying thought to be front-page news like Roberta was. Given how virulent anti-trans discrimination has become thanks to people like my Tr_mp-voting brother, one of my big fears is attracting media coverage. I do not not NOT want to be a cause célèbre, even just locally.

To be clear, this was all on the front page of the Daily Herald on March 6, 1954. It was big news, and the overall tone was "Look at the amazing things British scientists can do!" Nobody seemed to feel threatened or view us as a scourge which must be wiped out of existence the way they do now.

Setting aside my distaste for the phrase "sex change"--in these days when politicians on both sides are criminalizing gender-affirming care for youth, consider the math: 70 years ago in England, most trans women in England had ALREADY TRANSITIONED while still teenagers. The US is soooooo far behind.

Too Busy for 'Star Trek' Tuesdays

Why are you going to change "Star Trek" from Thursday night to Tuesday night? We protest! We enjoy it on Thursdays because on Tuesdays we are too busy. How long do you think "Star Trek" will last? We enjoy it immensely.

I could have given this bloated Vienna sausage some benefit of the doubt with how he uses his platform under his bullshit guise of “hearing all sides” but this abhorrent take from a smooth brained troglodyte is extremely dangerous. He also looks like his blood pressure is gonna blow out his ears.

On a related note: I get that he created the franchise, but I think many of my problems with SCREAM 7 boil down to Williamson's direction, and a sense of sweaty palms in the way he filmed the younger cast members. Hot teenagers are a genre staple, I know that, but it felt icky this time around.

Every so often I'm tempted to rewatch SERENITY for the first time in decades--mostly because I adore Alan Tudyk, tbh--and then I think I should probably rewatch FIREFLY first, which is just not going to happen. I thought the show was just okay in the Oughts, so it's not worth my time now.

I keep going back and forth on whether my current workplace is a starbase or a starship. My inclination is to call it a starship because of my personal biases (VOY > DS9), but it's a ginormous building designed to look like a castle, and it has two helipads. So, yeah, it's a starbase.

Anyone who thinks political commentary in the 80s was nuanced and invisible and didn't get in your face should revisit V some time

Genuinely funny people don't give a **** about cancel culture. They tell the joke. If it lands, it lands. If it doesn't, they're grown enough to take the heat. Only a child or a bully cares about being offensive or shocking. A funny person just cares about being funny.

This worries me. Because when people say things like this, it usually means the project isn't funny.
