“MAGA’s fundamental shared quality is a total lack of theory of mind for other people” is a theory that keeps getting validated by reality - look at almost every decision they’ve made in the war with Iran, and how they seem constantly surprised by the unanticipated actions of other parties.

Have you tried now? I've been getting emails the past few hours so it could have just been down for a bit earlier when I wasn't online and wasn't aware something might have been broken.

I know someone who spends some time in rural KZN each year and that area (and others like it all over SA) still experiences loadshedding, they just call it "load reduction" now and sometimes it goes on for days.

I really want to know who these people are in the newsroom.

There is someone on a constant power trip. There was no need to change this.

It occurs to me that if the government did force UK writers to hand over their work to the big AI companies, that would now among other things mean contributing to the development of US advanced weapon systems.

Agreed. I just wish a viable alternative would appear. I don't like any of the current possibilities and, anyway, they have made no effort to campaign in "DA" areas and offer real change. The first decent party that does might be surprised to see the support is an imposed default, not a preference.

But who knows about the money. Presumably so we can build more "infrastructure" projects (he loves to talk about that) and offer "job opportunities", which is such a stat grifting phrase. A "job opportunity" is not a job, it's brief work.

Well this is the interesting question about all these properties. The mayor had said that some of the smaller ones are going because they are too small to be converted to affordable housing projects, which leaves all sorts of questions about the people who had lived there etc etc etc and what's next

I wouldn't say it's run by them but the COCT certainly enthusiastically enables all of it, most especially the property developers, who are also busy destroying historic residences everywhere, including along Victoria Road/Bantry Bay where they are being replaced by ugly glass menaces.

Now one of the absolute worst types of people in the world has indirectly gone and proven that exact point.

My worst case anticipation was some sort of corporate locked down building with a shitty shopping centre and $$$ apartments. I couldn't even imagine something like this.

I was one of the people who lodged an objection to the sale, although the city never even acknowledged my submission, and one of my arguments was that the people of Cape Town need a mid sized venue where we can hold community events because everything else is too expensive and/or inaccessible.

No fuck this. These tins consume too much power, not like we have an abundance of that, far far too much water and early studies show they emit low frequency noise that harms nearby populations. Stop fucking building your polluting shit in Africa.
