ACOTAR was an absolute slogโฆ โThomas Cromwellโ by Diarmaid MacCulloch on the other hand is quite the read ๐๐๐
Currently slugging my way through ACOTR. I like Feyre, but it feels like a poor knock off of Beauty and the Beast and the same things seem to happen in everyyy chapter. Iโve been assured that itโs the worst one in the series and only makes sense once youโve read the others, so I shall continue. ๐โจ
Ok, IMO Bletchley Park Riddle lacked magic and emotional weight. But itโs a perfect high-interest book for 9-12s. Itโs an interactive page-turner and immerses you in war-time Britainโฆ but yes, I didnโt fall in love with the characters or the story and thatโs a-okay. WHAT TO READ NEXTโฆ
Finally decided what to read next - gone for the tween thriller, Bletchley Riddle by Ruta Sepetys and Steve Sheinken.
Marriage Portrait is an astounding read. So evocative and absorbing. Only criticism is that Lucre seems far older than a 15 y/oโฆ And now I am not sure what to read next ๐ฑ
Pride and Prejudice was a deliciously spiky and exceedingly wholesome read. Should have read it yonks ago. Have moved onto Marriage Portrait by Maggie OโFarrell - enjoying it more than I did Hamnet so far. Perhaps itโs the tiger.
Cosy worm whippet ๐ชฑ
Hyped to be on the reading panel for The Reading Agencyโฆ will be helping select childrenโs books for their Summer Reading Challenge!โจโจโจ๐๐ p.s. my whippet is not on panel, but will be assisting me throughout the process (itโs not clear exactly how yet)
Going to read Pride and Prejudice nextโฆ. despite being obsessed with the 1995 tv version (basic I know), Iโve never read it. May the literary lords now forgive me of my sins!
Finished Intermezzo. Ivan was such a wonderful character, also โฅ๏ธโd the ending and how it captured the nuances of living with complicated relationships, finding beauty in their tensions. But, gotta say, I still prefer Rโs previous book - the letters perfectly punctuated her prose and I missed them.
In defence of โradical listeningโ - an especially timely read in the wake of the cancellation of Short Cuts current.org/2024/11/why-...
A screenshot of Finding Seaglass playing in the BBC Sounds app. The cover art shows an old photograph of a Black man, Hannahโs father, with a curly Afro wearing a black button-up shirt and holding a baby, Hannah, wearing a white and red dress and reaching her arm towards him.
A screenshot of Hamlet Noir playing on BBC Sounds. The cover art shows Kronborg Castle as viewed from the sea; an imposing stone structure with turrets, towers, green roofs and spires. White bold text over the castle reads โHamlet Noir.โ
Fresh off of our big night at last weekโs #APAs24, weโd love to remind you that FINDING SEAGLASS and HAMLET NOIR are available again on BBC Sounds. If you havenโt listened to these award-winning productions yet, please do pop on your headphones and let us know what you think ๐ง๐ค
