Newly updated and much enlarged UK Planning & Housing starter pack
Please share for new joiners in the sector. Starter packs are the easiest way to get going on Bluesky, allowing you to quickly follow a bunch of relevant people
And of course, let me know of any names that should be added
I love a good map. I might love a terrible map even more!
Next time weβre within 200 miles of each other!
Final?! I was looking forward to geeking out for a considerable time to come!
With Dartmoor weather, I have been known to picnic standing up, but honestly, the entitlement of this man...
There was no view of Dartmoor this morningβ¦#wetdog
Am I kidding myself in thinking that the details in fact matter as much as the vibe!?
Good, but mostly quiet, company whilst I read about urban green space fundingβ¦

It's a very strange time currently to move as I do between policy circles and the housing sector
- Never seen policy so upbeat - positive change on planning, long-term funding, etc
- But the housing sector, and esp social housing is on its knees. Finances don't stack up, output falling off a cliff
One public estate might know something? But it is definitely part of many councilβs plans- both garage blocks and car parks.
In todayβs lunch newsβ¦πΆ islands in the stream πΆ of leftovers! Risotto wrapped around mozzarella floating in tomato sauce with crisped up Parma ham! Feeling really fancy!
I think Lewis may have been a little exasperated...
About 10 minutes into this is a clip of Liz Truss accusing Clement Attlee and the 1947 Planning Act of being the root of all wokeness. I donβt know whether to be proud of Planning for being early adopters of kindness or weirded out by everything she says!

Genuine Q, do you have any data on this? Thereβs lots of evidence of small landlords leaving the market. Are you talking about institutional investors? We need a thriving renters market too!
One of my best recent discoveries at the shops- for sushi, for burgers, for soupsβ¦for laziness.
Iβm no Mrs. Nicholls, but this soup βslapsβ!
#BrownfieldPassports All up for new ideas - but please can Govt review existing mechanisms of Permission in Principle, Brownfield Land Registers & Permitted Development & whether still needed, before starting another mechanism? Getting complicated now www.gov.uk/government/p...
#selfcare baking today! Carrot and pineapple and Welsh rarebit. 2 batches, otherwise that would be weird.
I saw an Instagram post that the #wildcamping case on #Dartmoor is back in court soon.
I βenjoyedβ wild camping on the moors as a teen and whilst I generally prefer a little more comfort now, the right is an important one.
If you can support this, please do.

What are your needs? I have a Nordace one (from eBay) that I love.
Just caught an Esso advert (on a cricket podcast...) encouraging us to make linked trips... Who do drives into town (for example) to do one errand, then home before going out to do another in the same place? #greenwashing aside, it felt like an odd advert.

It is good to take temperatures on this but what do we do? shrug and agree? Local Gov is a tanker plnrs have to work within and making change /turning it around can feel difficult. It will take huge investment to get the capacity to deliver more planners / allied folk, but I guess we keep trying?!
Being βforcedβ to walk my youngest to the childminder to give the pup some exercise is setting my days up so nicely at the moment. May the autumn mornings remain crisp and fresh and my days stay productive!
Interesting thread - with travel costs featuring so highly and resourcing being such an issue across the public sector, any requirement to be in the office more may simply accelerate the move of quality folk from public to private sectors...And value / productivity etc will depend so much on role.
Living this right now as a large institution near me is being expanded. The construction management difficulties are tortuous and I find myself becoming the angry person writing to the newspaper that I used to find so frustrating!
Right, that's it, lunchtime! Although I don't think I'll be hitting those heights today. I think we're in "if it's in the fridge..." territory!
Better than in here where my hands are seizing up...thinking about putting on a coat...
Glasses that work are great #shouldvegonesooner
