The scene in the present day. The pier that the locomotives ran off still shows the damage done.
That part of the depot is no longer used....
The aftermath of an incident near Staples Corner, that took place in the early hours of October 28th, 1988.
Two BR locomotives from the Cricklewood depot rolled of the end of the sidings and crashed onto the road below. The reason that was given was because the brakes hadn't been applied fully.
Something different - The video for Goldie Lookin Chain's 2005 song 'Guns Don't Kill People, Rappers Do' , which for some strange reason was filmed at Charter Place, in Watford. (Yes, I know, Watford isn't in NW London, but it's reachable on the 142 bus!)

Worth me mentioning that the original Getty caption states this as taken in 1969. A more detailed lower caption reveals it was 1966.
Mill Hill Broadway in 1924 and 2024.
A lot of differences, but the major change was the arrival in the 1960s of the M1, running alongside the railway. That saw the station building demolished.

Thank you Simon. Much appreciated insights.
Hidden in Hampstead is the grave of John Harrison, the self-taught clockmaker who solved longitude and made modern navigation possible.
An outsider in a world of elite science, his work helped map the Earth and still shapes GPS today.
One of Londonβs overlooked figures.

Oh dear.
Well, I guess there is still BBC London, but that also being dumbed down and the evening bulletins seem to be fixated with soft entertainment news. We are incourgade to go to their news app.
Its gone in Newsquest's Ham and High too.
Its the old Marlborough Road Station, which is in St John's Wood.
Not quite sure why Newsquest's Times series has posted this story up in both their Harrow and Barnet Facebook pages.
Sad to see how local news titles have been turned in to low quality clickbait.
