Is it a shame Firefly only got one excellent season? Sure. But it then got a feature film which tied everything up in a rewarding bow and it’s kinda frustrating how some have spent 20 years thinking it was a failed Season 2 pitch and not one of the all-time great cathartic series finales.

So much of the media and political landscape these days seems to be a two-pronged approach of “the young are illiterate and ideologically captured” and “we must do all we can to render the young illiterate and ideologically capture them.”

This ending had me ROARING! I rewatched this bit multiple times, just a beautiful gag pay-off. This might have also been the precise moment that sold me fully on the show.

Also, am giving serious thought to airing this episode between the 2nd and 3rd film at this year’s Halloween party!

I was immediately sold by the ending of the Christmas episode- Kris Kringle flies off on his sleigh only to be eaten by King Kong. But it turns out this was from Glem’s perspective (high off peyote) and it was a fatal car accident instead.

Glorious.

I actually had a pitch lined up for this which would have been set in the early 2000s East Coast indie wrestling scene, but alas there wasn’t sufficient interest in more wrestling Shakespeare!

Favourite tragedy is Macbeth (as you might have guessed!), and favourite comedy is Much Ado About Nothing.

Meanwhile in the US, they have the infamous Cartman storyline in South Park, some low-brow Farrelly-type film comedies I’m sure, and now this, and this recurring gag of people using Tourette’s as a handy excuse to shout out horrible bigoted things they actually want to say.

Here in the UK, and especially Scotland, viewers of a certain generation grew up with John Davidson. There was the original “John’s Not Mad” documentary when he was a kid, which I saw as a kid as a re-run, and numerous follow-up docs through his life. Later there was Pete Bennett on Big Brother.

Sorry, week-late pop culture observations here. I like Connor Storrie, but that SNL sketch on Tourette’s was abysmal. When considering the rift between the response of American and UK audiences to the BAFTAs incident, I think a major, overlooked element is respective media exposure to Tourette’s.

THE SHINING is a horror movie because it depicts a writer having to get a part-time job.

Reading this makes me feel like I’ve found the Specific Guy to blame for EXPLICIT SEX tags censoring every time I attempt to post even the most mild image of a butt while promoting my comic.

I made it through a fraught encounter with The Girl in Resident Evil Requiem and found myself in a room with a conveyer belt of bodies hanging upside down that I have to make my way through. And I thought, right, time for bed, my heart has had enough of a workout tonight.
