A canal scene in Venice. There are several boats moored on the canal, with a bright blue one being the closest. On each side of the water are tall residential buildings of many different colours. On the left, the closest building is shaded from the sun and has several window boxes with greenery and pink flowers. The second building has a line of washing hanging in the sun to dry. The reflections of the buildings glisten on the water as far as the eye can see, beyond the bridge that spans the narrow canal. There is a small patch of cloudy sky visible between the tall buildings.
