Blowtorching diplomatic and humanitarian capacity while burning through military capabilities and alienating allies is malpractice of the highest order by the Secretary of State, the nation's top DIPLOMAT, and by the National Security Advisor. It does not help the military to kill US diplomacy. 14/
The US did not even ask Ukraine for anti-drone help. Now the Gulf countries are talking to Ukraine. Who knows where that leads? The UK (the UK!) is also adrift defending bases and getting its people out. Alliance tensions are normal, starting wars without basic alliance management is not. 9/
Trump has no idea that "unconditional surrender" actually means that the US is demanding to occupy and administer Iran. It just sounds dramatic and gets him more headlines.
In addition to common decency. Leaving sailors to drown is outlawed by the Geneva Convention.
Very likely a war crime, celebrated by US leaders. Not that it matters to the US government, which under liberals, conservatives and Trumpers, has hollowed out the potential rule of international law.
This is a chilling crime. A shame on our country. The Iranian ship was unarmed. The US knew this. The sailors were murdered by our navy, and the survivors were left to die at sea.

Paging the ADL ...paging....
What does this imply for those of us who are not Christian, and who labor under the assumption that we're protected by the First Amendment?
Tweet from Tucker Carlson: "Could this be a religious war designed to rebuild the Third Temple on the ashes of Al Aqsa? Hope not."
This form of anti-Zionism - not all anti-Zionism, but this form - is the anti-imperialism of fools. By absurdly framing this war with Iran as a Jewish religious war, Tucker Carlson gets to offload all responsibility to Israel, and thereby maintain his belief in the moral goodness of the US.
And Saudi Arabia is a far larger trading partner for China than Iran, exporting far more and importing more crude. It even has larger trade with Israel than Iran. So Iran mostly serves a strategic symbolic purpose for the Chinese, not a major economic one beyond oil
China just wants to avoid conflict and keep the party going...(in both senses of the word)

At the risk of wading into another non-binary conversation that many will misunderstand, intentionally or otherwise, as the internet remains shut off in Iran, one of the responsibilities of the diaspora is to be the voice of our people. Some in Iran are so desperate for help overthrowing theβ¦

Disturbing decision by the United Kingdom where a ban on student visas from Sudan, Afghanistan, Myanmar, and Cameroon will come into force on March 26. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...
This is the global legacy of the Trump Muslim Ban and the travel bans that followed. Shameful.
I published a thing today: forward.com/opinion/8096...
I heard the White House is planning to crowd source this one. They're offering $10 million for best explanation for why Trump started the war.
The idea that dying in a war that the US and Israel are fighting together is βdying for Israelβ is antisemitic, because it implies that Israel is the puppet master that somehow hoodwinked the US into going to war against its interests, as opposed to the US government making this decision freely.
"...will there be no successor to the deceased prince? Will not his citizens throw themselves into war with the more energy because of that new wrong, signal and shameful as it is? We shall hear that soldiers are roused to frenzy when their leader is slain by no illegitimate means"

It tells you something about the disorientating rate of change underway that nobody is particularly shocked that a head of state has been assassinated by other states, something which has *never happened* in the modern era. Which is illegal under US law. Shed no tears for Khamanei, but still.

Did I want Khamenei to be taken out by Israeli or American bombs?
No, that gave him exactly what he wanted.
At the same time, I am not going to be in mourning for the man who authorized the execution and torture of my relatives.
Messy days ahead.
America literally refuses to learn any lessons from its many foreign policy disasters in the Middle East.
It's actually remarkable.
The same stable of neocon warhawks, Christian nationalists, and Islamophobes - who exist within "liberal" circles as well - still parrot the same talking points.
Ali Khamenei Is Dead, but Iran Is Not Yet Free
His death closes one chapter of repression, but the Islamic Republicβs entrenched security, political, and economic power structure remains intact, and the fight for a truly free Iran is far from over.
