Just told a relative no thank you to some perfectly lovely but unneeded furniture. If we take on anything else, it needs to have built in storage at the very least and an already agreed-upon place to go in this house.

CATL Begins Commercial Production Of Sodium-Ion Batteries - CleanTechnica CATL has begun commercial production of sodium-ion batteries, which perform very well in the cold and have a long life expectancy.

Would be a fun irony if sodium-ion batteries turned out to be the tech that turns oil into salt.

I've got an old obscure song in my head, can't remember the name, only some lyrics and no search engine can find it. Maddening.

Economic abuse by a partner contributes to one death every 19 days, report finds Financial abuse is a factor in more than half of deaths related to domestic abuse but is often misunderstood

One of those facts about UBI that should be obvious to anyone who gives it any real thought is how significantly it will reduce domestic abuse. In Kenya, unconditional basic income cut domestic abuse in half. In Canada's Dauphin pilot, it dropped by about a third. Everyone needs the power to say NO.

March is International #LongCovid Awareness Month and the 15th is Awareness Day. I've been living with Long Covid for 6 years. All it took was one SARS-CoV-2 infection and never recovering from Covid-19. This disease has taken so much from me, and the world has left me and so many others behind. 1/3

When someone says β€žScientists do not want you to knowβ€œ you can dismiss everything from there on. Scientists want you to know. They are desperate that you know. They can’t shut up about what they found out and want you to know.

Cleaned out my wallet-it had 5 different versions of 1 card, over a 12 punch cards for businesses I've not visited in years, and another half dozen that were just expired.
Tempted to buy a much smaller version of the one I've got, it's far too capacious now.

Did you know that the bees that need saving are NOT honeybees?

Honeybees are the dairy cows of bees. People brought them over from Europe to make us honey.

The problem with honeybees, esp in resource-limited ecosystems (like hey! cities!) is that they compete with our native bees for food.

"So where *should* I get seeds from?" Well I'm glad you asked! I'm not a big gardener, but here are some options!

-Indigenous seed sellers!
-Native plant sales! In the US these mean cheap plants often salvaged from restoration sites!
-Your local library's seed bank!
-Master Gardener groups!

The vaccines do not meaningfully prevent transmission after the first few months. You should also get the vaccine, at least 2x per year if you can. Both of these things are true, and the real misinformation here is conflating covid conscious people with anti-vaxxers, which is purely insidious.

Antarctica’s Mineral Riches Exposed as Climate Warms

Awww, for f**k's sake. One more time for all the profit-blinded, corporate marauders in the back:

Melting ice caps are NOT a new business opportunity. They are an existential warning that we must transform our economic system before it's too late.

Hands off Antarctica! πŸŽπŸ”— #ClimateSky

I know it’s difficult right now, but I insist that you seek and enjoy beautiful things, even if it seems frivolous or irresponsible in the face of overwhelming horror. I want you to feed yourself artistically, spiritually, and literally, because you can’t Do The Work when you’re starving.

A remarkably disheartening thing is you get the sense there are a handful of genuine historic fork in the road moments of what kind of country we want in our lifetime, and I still can’t shake how much during the height of Covid we had a decision of what lessons we’d all take from it and what…

A pair of hands held together holding hundreds of ladybugs which are crawling on the wrist as well. They are small, a little larger than a fat grain of rice, but short and oblong instead of long like rice. They have a little black heads and are deep red. They cover the fingers, but we can see the pink of the hands and the wrists through them. In the background is a green plant of some kind.

Never 🚫 buy ladybugs. Spread the word! Why?
They're harvested from the wild & populations are in decline. The hunters who sell them destroy habitat.& Shipping ladybugs has spread parasites & disease to other insects.🌱
Who eats FAR more aphids than ladybugs? Green Lacewings (NOT prev post Lace Bug… 🧡

I think a couple of my native shrubs might not have made it through the extended cold snap. I'll give them a couple more months to be sure, but it's not looking good.

The world is officially in its water bankruptcy era - The Weather Network β€œThis report tells an uncomfortable truth: many regions are living beyond their hydrological means."

AGAIN, this is really fucked up and everyone should be talking about it. Climate change has already pushed us to water bankruptcy and AI data centres are accelerating total collapse of our water systems at a staggering rate.

STOP USING AI. FUCK.
