It's got some meh tracks, but it's also got some great songs. It's not an album I pull out often. And I don't think listening to it a whole lot this week is going to change that. But it's a good album, and it produced some things that sound great live!

Another Record, the closing track, for example has a repeating double-hit on a tom, but it's recorded in a way that makes it sound further away than the snare or the high-hat. I like it!

No Reply At All also brings in the Phenix Horns to the mix, a group he include on his solo album.

For me, the most successful solo track is Rutherford's Like it or Not. I think this is a really solid song; not flashy or anything, just really good.

Me and Sarah Jane on the other hand; this one is just sort of there. It doesn't do anything for me here, nor will it on a future live release.

After a few months rest following their tour to support Duke, #Genesis came back together and recorded "Abacab". Each of them contributed 1 song of their own to the album, but the majority of the album was written as a band.

And yet, we’re the ones with Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Forget shooting someone in Times Square. He has literally bombed a school, and his base doesn’t care.

Exactly. 2112 feels like a collection of individual songs, where this sounds like a single piece of music.

Hemispheres came up in my weekly series a few months ago, and it’s definitely my favorite of their albums so far (that will eventually change as I get further into their catalog).

I think Cygnus X-1 Book II is easily their best long track; much better than 2112 (Rush fan jail for me, I know).

4 more warehouses in 2 days, and continued great conversation.

But now my wife has flown over, and it’s time for some vacation!

Another A321 to my third (and final) new to me airport on this trip; Da Nang, bringing my total to 11,600 miles so far

Any tips on what we should see in the next 3 days?

Ha!
I just found the scale in our hotel room, but thought, Oh, there’s a scale!

It’s small enough; get a couple folks to help tip that thing over!

As a logistics guy who has built a couple Lego sets recently (better use of my time than doom scrolling or mindless TV), I’ve been intrigued since I heard about it. But it’s also too big to fit on my desk’s shelf. 🤷‍♂️

I always enjoy a little time in both Malaysia and Singapore. It’s been a good few days.

But now I’ve moved on the second new to me City, Country, and Airline for this trip: Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, via a Vietnam Airlines A321.

As a Chicagoan, I feel like I’m supposed to love them. And I do think they have a few good albums. Oceania is one that I go back to, far more than I do Siamese Dream or Mellon Collie.

But he tries too hard to be “cool” and edgy, and just comes off as a giant douchenozzle.

I choose to believe that there is a special place in hell for people who set off 5 minute long fireworks displays at 1:00 AM, again at 2:00, and again at 3:00.

They are living outside the boundaries of society, and should be treated as such in this life and the next.

"Master of Puppets" was released 40 years ago #OnThisDay!

What's your favorite song on the album?

But I've enjoyed listening to Face Value this week, and I'm looking forward to hearing more of Phil's solo work.

Peter totally on his own, Phil doing his own stuff and continuing to work with the band; it's a good time to be a fan of the expanding #Genesis universe!

02.03.2026 14:45 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

Tomorrow Never Knows closes the album, but rather than Phil, I half expect Eddie Vedder to start singing. Its opening reminds me so much of how the #PearlJam album Ten opens. Then they quickly diverge, and any resemblance is lost.

Largely about his divorce, Phil takes a more direct approach to lyrics and emotion in his writing here. He played demos of a few of his songs to the band, and Misunderstanding and Please Don't Ask ended up on their Duke album, but those two tracks would have fit on Face Value very well too.

A closeup black and white photo of Phil Collins's face; relatively expressionless. At the top of the photo, "Phil Collins" and "Face Value" are printed in a stylized script.

After And Then There Were Three was released, #PhilCollins took some time away from the band to, unsuccessfully, work on his first marriage. When he came back, Tony and Mike were working on individual projects, so Phil started to do the same. "Face Value" became his first solo record.

But now back to airplanes.

Today was the 787-10, and my first time on Singapore Airlines; definitely lived up to expectations!

Then a quick drive across the strait, and into Malaysia for the next few days.

MUJI!!
One of the signs that Chicago isn’t actually a world class city is that we don’t have MUJI. If I’m in a city that has one (and I will be again next week), I always go!
There are some in NY, but not the same as Tokyo, Singapore, Stockholm, etc.
Such a great store.

Next was Newark to Delhi on a United 787-9, the first of each of the 3 variants I’ll be on during this trip.

My first time in India, though I won’t get to see much more than the traffic and some warehouses.

Loooong day; now I sleep 🤞

Maybe being affectionate throws them off the scent that you’re actually an old married couple?

I don’t think we’ve been asked in a really long time; not that I remember at least.

U.S. men's hockey with Curt-Schilling-in-Boston levels of good will squandering. A 25-mile lead in the good will marathon and they tripped on their dicks right at the finish line.

A journey of 20k+ miles starts with … a flight to Newark.
Very smooth, despite the issues they’ve faced out here the last couple days. @united.com kept us informed, and everyone we’ve talked to has been great!
Now a little sitting before the next one …

I can’t count the people to whom I’ve describe marriage as a conversation about dinner, every day, for the rest of your life. If you can do that with this person, marry them! But if you can’t picture that?
Because dinner will take an outsized portion of your attention … forever.

Ultimately, Moving Pictures is a really good album. Personally, I think the first two tracks, while good, aren't as great as a lot of other Rush fans feel. But they do add to a really good album, that I've loved listening to multiple times this week.

In a documentary about them, Neil Peart talked about Limelight, and how he struggles with the fame aspect of the job. I can't even imagine what it's like to always have to "pretend the stranger is the long awaited friend."

The lyrics say so much about who Neil was, and it's just a great track.
